You have to be VERY careful with the spindle version of ANY DVD writeable disc. I've read alot of horror stories where the discs many companies offer in spindle lots are often inferior to those they distribute in jewel cases. I'm not sure if Verbatim may be doing the same, so until someone can verify these spindle discs are the exact discs as their single/3 packs, I'll stay away from them.

I only buy spindles now a days...actually the past 2 years...so I'd be willing to try these.

I buy Verbatim DataLife Plus spindles (single layer) and they are always MCC or MKM. When I used buy jewel cases last year they seemed to be mostly CMC.
This also happens with TDK. The TDK spindles at my local store are RICOH JAPAN, while the more expensive jewel case TDK are CMC.
Thats why I tend to avoid jewel cases now.
EDIT: The spindles of Verbatim DL discs are inkjet/thermal printable. They are between $120 and $140 U.S. for a 20 pack, which is about $6 or $7 per disc.

Ouch...not sure I want to spend $120 for a 20 pack just yet heheh.
Just a info.I've read a magazine test and there may be lots of problems in spindle DVD's.
Also, the best manufacturer is Maxell. It has the best DVD-Rs (according to THEM!!!!).

I've read on many posts that the only double layered manufacturer we can trust is Verbatim. Alot of people have posted problems with basically every other dual layered DVD+R DL recordable discs except for the Verbatims. I don't think I'd chance blowing $5+ unless I was certain to get an exact copy with no errors. So far I've used 25 Verbatim DL discs, and have yet to encounter any errors.

Got a 15 pack at Best Buy last weekend for $79.00 US

Also, the best manufacturer is Maxell. It has the best DVD-Rs (according to THEM!!!!).I disagree. I've burned a couple of expensive Maxell DL+R (actually manufactured by Ricoh, ID=RICOHJPN-D00-01), and the result was extremely bad! It was impossible to even recognize the beginning of layer 1. See kprobe test here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=678715#post678715).
No problem with Philips (manufacturer=Mitsubishi MKM-001-00, 2.4x and 4x), as you can see here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=683125#post683125).

I noticed today that Newegg has a Verbatim DataLifePlus 8.5GB 2.4X DVD+R DL Inkjet Printable 20 Pack (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817130997) for $110 with free shipping. A couple of weeks ago these were $129 plus shipping.

Seeing as MKM/MCC (Verbatimīs mother company) was involved in designing the DVD+R DL standard, I should hope they get it right. Is Maxell already capable of making DVD+R DL?
I believed the only ones doing it (or was it allowed to do it by Phillips certification) where Ricoh, Ritek and MKM/MCC.
A lot of the Maxell CD-R spindleīs bought over the years turned up as being Ritek (wich didnīt go well with my burners) so I moved to Fujifilm CD-rīs wich for now still turn out to be Fujiīs. I suspect that as soon as the margins on DVD-media have eroded too much more spindles (high volume low profit) will turn up as not being made by the high quality label under wich it is sold.
Fortunately sites like this (http://www.cdr-forum.de/showcdrhersteller.php) try to keep track of that. I would like to know of other easily accessible databases that centralise this kind of information?
Instead of those DVD+R DLs I think I would prefer cheap (or maybe simply available-in Europe-) 9GB cartridgeless DVD-RAM or a fast availability of Blue-ray discs (durabis-coated or whatever is nessescarry to make'em cartridgeless) and that Philips/Benq CD-r DVD-+R Blue-ray combo burner they showed at computex or one of those other computer shows.

Is Maxell already capable of making DVD+R DL?I don't think so. The Maxell DVD+R DL I've burned is manufactured by Ricoh.

I believed the only ones doing it (or was it allowed to do it by Phillips certification) where Ricoh, Ritek and MKM/MCC.
The following DVD+R DL media are available:
CMC MAG-D01
INFOME-D01 (Infomedia)
MKM-001
PHILIPS-CD2 (manufacturing done by CMC)
PRODISC-D01
RICOHJPN-D00 (manufacturing done by Ritek)
RITEK-D01
...and hopefully soon MKM-003, the 8x DVD+R DL by Mitsubishi.
I would like to know of other easily accessible databases that centralise this kind of information?

Thanks.
And nice to see double sided cartridgeless DVD-RAMs in the list on the last one, with a capacity greater then DVD+R DL-(er, of course since it is double sided).

I can do you even better...
Visit Meritline (even if you do not care for them). They are now offering the new PRINTABLE dual layer Verbatim DVD+R discs. White inkjet printables. The cost? (We know we pay a premium for any printable discs)...
Beginning price: $110.99 for a 20 pack.
Less 10% instant saving coupon code
Less Mail in Rebate: - $40.00
==================
Bringing the final cost, for the 20-pack, to: $59.89
Total cost per disc = $2.99
For PRINTABLE Verbatim dual layer DVD+Rs
I am not a huge fan of Meritline. Some of their advertising and listings have been beyond deceitful, in my opinion. However, I have bought from them on occasion, and this is the sort of situation where I decided to make an exception.
(Supermediastore also offers the same 20 pack of printables for about $100.00, which makes them about $5.00 per disc).
-Bruce
PS -- None of the above costs include shipping, of course, which can generally range from $6 to $12 for these depending on which part of the country you are in.

I know verbatim is favorite with people here, but I found the ridata 6 pack (free with the drive) to be very useful indeed. Not a single failure so far with NEC 3550a. 25 pack (2nd link) promises to bring it down to $2 per disc.
