View Full Version : Oversize Problems ever since version .86

I have been looking on here and I can't find any posts in which people have been having this problem. I have been updating DVD-Rebuilder ever since version .66PR and I must say that this is a terrific tool. Jdobbs, I don't know how you keep doing it. Anyways, I kept updating untill Rockas started making the installers. I have performed Rockas's installers ever since his first release making sure to uninstall the previous version prior. I had never encountered a problem untill I tried to update from version .86 to .89. Ever since then I have been getting oversized results. So, obviously I decided to try the newer versions that have come out since. All have given the same yet at the same time random results (I say random b/c the size changes every time). I have tried every version up to the current .93 all with no luck. So I decided that since .86 worked prior I would do a clean install of it. I did everything that I had done for the upgrades and miraculously .86 still works giving me a 4.32gb image.
My question is what important has changed from .86 to now that might warrant such behavior? And how might this be fixed? Also, any other things that I need to check that might be causing this?
Oh, almost forgot, when I look in the log window instead of the usual total time of around 240 min it now says 90 total min for complete one step process. Maybe my computer didn't feel like taking the extra time compressing? I don't know. It has been a little bitchy lately.
Using:
DVDDecrypter in file mode
Rockas's installer of this terrific program
CCE SP 2.67 trial
AviSynth 2.5.5

Ok, I decided that I would try .93 in a different directory and run it again while .86 is still installed and working correctly. The result was the same as before. After a fresh install I ran .93 with the dvd "Boogeyman" and 128 min later the image was there in the DVDFILES folder. This time the outcome was 8.49 Gb which by the way is 2 gigs larger than the original dvd. Wondering if now I had really screwed up, I ran version .86 with the exact "Boogeyman" image and whala...227 min later I had a 4.31Gb image. Does anybody have any ideas whatsoever. Did .93 change any process in such a way that causes problems with AMD processors? Probably not since I am the only one with this problem. I may have to stick with .86 until 1.00 comes out and hopefully works for me.

can you post a file list of files in teh dvdfiles foldeR? with sizes please

You say you are using the installer, and I'm sure that you are, however, this whole thing sounds like a corrupt or incompatable DGDecode. Also please double check your settings. Under Options-CCE Options, please be sure you have CCE SP checked(not Trial). Are you pre-processing your source with any other programs?

@ jptheripper
I would be happy to but I deleted the DVDFILES folder today as I needed the 8 gigs on that drive for other work. I will try it again and post the list of files. I do remember that there were more than five 1 Gb files though.
@ SpazzHH
All I can say is that the DGDecode.dll is the one that is included in the installers. Other than that I have no idea. I was going to copy the one in the .86 folder to the .93 folder but upon inspection, they are exactly the same. What about the Decomb521.dll? Might it have an effect such as this?
Rockas

the DGDecode.dll included on the Installer is the correct one... the Decomb521.dll is used only when you choose to deinterlace.
How about custom matrices? are you using any?

hmmm, cce=1 and cce2.67 trial? that doesnt seem right, i think this is an incorrect cce so its using cbr issue
Rockas

CCE=1 IS CORRECT when using 2.66/2.67 Trial version.

@ Rockas
No deinterlacing done and haven't changed any matrices settings.
Just as a side note, I know a lot of people do but I am not doing any pre-processing to this one so that should cancel out a lot of suspicions.

Has anyone been able to duplicate this? I've been using .86 since my last post but I would like to upgrade. I find it weird that noone has had this problem.

Look in the ECL file(s) and see what the parameter "video_type=" is set to.
jdobbs

Also click on "Display Versions" on the Help menu and report what it says for your CCE version.

When I click on "Display versions" for CCE it says CCE SP Trial Version 2.67.0.23.
I also checked the video type and it is equal to 2.
jdobbs
12th June 2005, 14:08
Hmm... that's the problem. For version 2.67 Trial the video type should be "4" -- "2" means OPV. But I just went through the code -- and the only place I set the value to "2" is when OPV is selected...
Are you doing any kind of postprocessing, like running any other package on any part of it (e.g. after prepare)?
The_Stoneman
12th June 2005, 20:00
I don't do any pre or post-processing. I run DVD-RB and burn.
Going off what you said, I decided to turn OPV on and run it and see what the difference was. When I ticked OPV to turn it on, after running the prepare part I checked the ecl again. This time the video type=4. How could this be backwards? Is there a way to fix it?
The_Stoneman

OK, so I decided to run it with OPV checked this time since it changed the video type to 4. This worked but when I ran encode and checked the video type again it said 16. Does the encode section change the ecl? Something is changing it other than the prepare phase.
jdobbs

It never gets changed by DVD-RB after the Prepare phase... The only way it could get set to 16 is if:
1. You aren't using ECLCCE (which requires the retail version, not trial).
2. You are using v2.70.

I just thought that I would post an update. I sent in a donation for the 1.00RC1 version and I have to say that I love the look. You can tell it took a lot of hard work and effort. I'm sad to say that I am still having the same problems with oversizing. I just backed up "The Pacifier" and the final size of the VIDEO_TS folder within DVDFILES is 6.80 Gb. It is still obviously doing something wrong on my computer because the time is quite diminished. Whenever I use these new versions, the time is drastically smaller during the encoding phase. It usually takes about 230+- min but this one took "[19:49:10] Phase II ENCODING completed in 65 minutes." To me this seems that as suspected before for some reason there is a setting that is wrong on my computer and every time I install a new version it sets it that way again. Like I said I went back and tried every version and the most recent one that worked without a hitch was version .86PR.
@jdobbs
Is there any way to get a .86Pro version untill I figure this out? I need to blank out some stuff. If there aren't that many things different about the .86PR and Pro then don't worry about it.
Thanks
Why don't you try another encoder like Hcenc?
At least you would find out if your problem is with CCE.

I tried HCenc last night on the slowest best quality setting in 1.00RC1 and it worked fine. I guess this means that the problem I am having is with the new versions of DVD-RB and CCE. I don't understand why noone has had this problem. I guess I will use HCenc but I have had very good results from CCE in the past and would like to get back to it soon. I don't know how HCenc will do on seasons of tv shows so I may just use it for movies.

I can vouch for hank's encoder doing a great job with tv show disks. I think it's better than CCE for handling full disks at lower bitrates.

Just thought I'd let people know. I tried 2.70 trial yesterday and it has encoded everything I can throw at it. I have no ideas what the problems were with 2.67 oversizing everything. So far 2.70 has come out with 4.32 avg size every time. Thanks for everything.
What exactly is the difference in 2.70 trial again? I expected a little logo or something. Are there any negative things that I should know about?
Also for people with the time, I have found some settings that work pretty good with some tv seasons:
X-Files Seasons: CCE2.70 (etc) w/ 5 passes and quality_prec to 36 gives very very good results if you have the time that is. I prefer quality over speed myself.
Some seasons I have (especially ones tightly packed) do better with setting a low quality_prec.
So far as HCenc it is great but I did the first X-Files disc with it at best quality then CCE with the specs above and got several friends to give me their honest opinions and every one said the CCE looked better. As stated before I guess it's all a matter of preference.
