Note to self: Don't ask what the rules are. It's apparently against the rules.

when you join you are sent 3 or 4 lines telling you how to get the rules. You can just copy & paste that command. It can't get any easier.

Wow, so you’re the one that banned me, gee…. thanks, I was just tiring to fig out this thing, there is no tutorial?? I was in the main room later on and I never got any response to any question. Went on this thing twice and been banned twice, nice to see the great help.
Thanks for the patients.

Well, obviously that's what he was trying to do...
By the way, what is this supposed to mean?
-JohnDoe- ALWAYS ask your question instead of asking if you can ask.

A lot of newbies seem to start their discussion with, "Can I ask a question?"

Well instead of
"-JohnDoe- ALWAYS ask your question instead of asking if you can ask. " I should say
-JohnDoe- ALWAYS ask your question instead of asking, " if you can ask."
Makes more sense.

That makes little sense. Why would someone ask if someone else can ask a question? When in quotes the words should be those of the other speaker.
-JohnDoe- ALWAYS ask your question instead of asking, " May I ask a question?"
But the original is correct.

Yes I saw that when I read it, I goofed, but I can, I'm not the one that thousands of uses are looking at right? But your second one is better then the original.

Agreed.
I don't know why, but this is about the most irritating question I routinely encounter. I just want to strangle said newbie every time I hear it.
And what's bad is I know they only do it because they are trying to be nice/respectful. But somehow, it manages to infuriate me every time.

so the mods aer jsut as "bad" on the chan as here eh
hehhh
mods everywhere are getting their knickers in a twist it seems, is my little home forum the only un-affected one?
anyways, thats scary if you;r going to do that put an irc guide up to teach the newbs not to do that other wise it;s unfair imho
one mod to another

No we're not. We don't ban a lot of people anyway.
On IRC there are just a couple of mechanism that invoke an auto TEMP ban. Usually you're able to rejoin in an hour or so. For example the !list command will do that, just as flooding etc. There are only a few people permanently banned for being known spammers or doing other things that we don't want.
In this the ban was invoked btw by an irc script that kicks the user when pm-ing. The person in question had this script up for not being spammed all the time. So this was a kind of unfortunate event.
So simply asking can I ask a question will not get you banned of course. It's just that all the explaining get's a bit tiresome so we use those little scripts (saves our fingertips:)). Absolutely no harm meant ;)

ya know you *could* set up scripts that reactor ot common questions
I could even help set it up :)
put the triggers in the topic and bam pointhe to teh trigger and it pm's to them :)
