Hello,

I know it seems funny question but still....

As i understood, the capturing speed of a movie from dv camcorder using firewire is x1. meaning, you must play it all in order to capture (60 min of capturing for 60 min of tape).

my question is, since we are using digital methods, and the firewire suppose to be the best hardware to capture the movie, why can't we capture it faster, for example x3 ? what limits the capturing speed?

Many thanks,
Eran

The DV camcorder has a motor that reels the tape. Its not a limitation of firewire. It would be different if instead of tape it used a hard drive a solid state memory.

I was told there are professional (and expensive) devices that can capture at higher speeds - but not consumer camcorders.

As bb said professional gear can do it. AFAIK (Sony's Q?)SDI-equipped hardware is capable of transferring material from device to device (or PC) up to 4x real time speed.
I'm sure other vendors have similar solutions aswell though they're not really affordable by normal consumers ;)
