I've bought some time ago a VHS NTSC Cassette and I'd like to burn it as DVD PAL. I've ripped it on my pc (Mpeg2) and now I don't know how to convert it to PAL for DVD burning :( Any software I've tried to use gave me unsync between vid/aud....
Please, I need your help !!!
TIA

use avisynth :)
kernelbob, convertfps(50), re-interlace with separatefields().selectevery(4,1,2).weave().
use the search to find out what i'm talking about.

I mean, first thing by NTSC-PAL conversion should be to determine type of Video - is it pure NTSC video, is it telecined ?
Then using propriate script.
What if on that VHS is some telecined movie?
Correction: convert to jerky and blurry :D

I really don't know what "telecined" means, even I've used the "search" option. After ripping it to my pc as NTSC, I've got an .mpg file that runs ok on my ps, synced....no problems.
I think I'll try canopus procoder - even that there are many parameters that I don't really know how to use, and each render lasts about 6-7h on my PC (Intel 3.2G, 420G HDs, 2G DDR, Asus V9520 -5200 VIVO, Win XP1, Premiere Pro 1.5, Adobe CS)

You didn't find 'telecine' ? Hard to believe...
OK. Then search for 3:2 pulldown. I know that all this is little hard to swallow at once...
In any case, reason for async by NTSC-PAL conversion was speedup of video.
Actually, such conversion is not the best idea for absolute beginners, because it is one of harder parts.
In guides is described how to correct audio in case of video speed change. It needs just some digging... :)

of course, you could always burn an NTSC DVD.
most PAL equipment can handle it (you could call it "backward" compatible, lol). either your DVD player will convert on the fly, or you TV will be able to take NTSC input, in which case just watch it like that.
3:2 jerks come out of an NTSC->PAL process pretty well. it's only vertical panning that causes headaches. of course motion will be smeared slightly, but it's barely noticable (and really inevitable in most cases, unless you're able to do a perfect IVTC and speedup, but there's drawbacks to this, and an old VHS is highly unlikely to cooperate with an IVTC process).

We have a tutorial on telecined content -- its designed for users of DGIndex/DVD2AVI and AviSynth, but it will provide the background you need:

Why not recapture it to your hard drive in a PAL format. Most video capture cards/devices I know of will capture PAL and NTSC. No lengthy re-encoding and no sync problems.

1) Do NOT do a direct capture into the MPEG format.
it will unecessary hurt image quality and the video conversion process.
2) better capture your NTSC-VHS with 704x480@29.97 fps into AVI with HuffYUV or PicVideo MJPEG at Quality 19
3) upload an unprocessed sample clip somewhere which helps us to decide, which kind of processing is necsessary.

What 'recapture' means by you?
You can't capture NTSC as PAL.
kernelbob, convertfps(50), re-interlace with separatefields().selectevery(4,1,2).weave().
selectevery(4,0,3) is the better choice here... or are you using LeakKernelBob? ;)
