View Full Version : Vegas and a Faster Lossless Codec ?

I'm looking for a quicker way to render out of Vegas 6 to a visually lossless AVI. It took 11 hours to render a 28 minute video (lots of effects) via Lagarith on an Athlon 64 3000 with 1.5GB RAM.

Since Vegas works in RGB, does it make sense to render via a codec that also outputs RGB ?

Ultimately, I want to encode the resulting AVI to Mpeg2 NTSC-DVD via AviSynth and FFMPEG (which works great, BTW).

Thanks

The bulk of the time is probably just processing the video and rendering the effects via Vegas. Changing codecs probably will not have much of an effect as a result. If you want a faster codec though, use Huffyuv; MSU (what adoniscik linked to) is much slower than Lagarith.

Thanks for the responses. Interesting- I tried a Size comparison of Huffy to Lagarith and Huffy turned out to be 3x larger. Still, if I could have cut the rendering time down by a few hours, I would have gladly given up the space.
