I was having a hell of a time playing back 1280x720p encoded clips with FFDSHOW+Zoomplayer (5/3/2005 version). After disabling the 264 support, and letting the nero decoder work, my CPU usuage dropped from 100% (3ghz HT) rto 50-60%. They are all playable now.

Anyone notice this?

P4 3ghz HT
1GB RAM
GF 6800GT
WinXP SP2

Latest nero, latest FFDSHOW 5/3/2005

That's true. Nero's AVC decoder is (much) faster than ffmpeg's. Do the devs notice that at all ?

afaik nero's decoder drops frames when the cpu is too slow, ffdshow (libavcodec) will not do that

Even if it drops frames, it should be at 100% CPU uses too.

It is not dropping frames- if you play the clip in mplayer2.exe (still in XP) it shows the FPS to be 29.92+/-0.05. The panning is very very smooth and the audio is in sync. Also, why would it drop frames if my CPU is at 60%?

Something is odd with FFDShow - it is usingthe x264 library right?

I have also disabled auto-post processing.

mplayer is afaik all-in-all faster than ffdshow

i didnt say that it dropped frames in your case

x264 does offer a decoder, both ffdshow and mplayer use the decoder from libavcodec/ffmpeg

x264 decoder isn't broken?

x264 does not offer a decoder. It was never finished, and doesn't even compile.

lavc's h264 decoder is about 15% faster now than it was on 5/3, but that's apparently not the magnitue of slowdown you're seeing.

Soo.... why did you talk about it?

Soo.... why did you talk about it?
because its one reason why the nero decoder can be faster than libavcodec

I really want FFDShow to work - since then I can use AVC content in MCE2005. Right now, I cannot get MCE2005 to work with the nero filters no matter what I do. FFDShow and xvid, however, work fine.
