Playing xvid encoded filez with no xvid installed ?

Hey guyz, I don't have the xvid codec installed but I can still play xvid encoded files, how's that possible ? I had PowerDVD 6 and thought it was from it, but I removed it and I can still play xvid encoded filez. And the quality isn't as good as I played them with the original xvid codec.
Also when I compress with xvid the video becomes really ugly.

So how do I completely remove any xvid codecs installed on my system so I can install the original one and encode stuff ? I dun want to reinstall win cuz I did that last week.

Btw I'm using WinXP SP1. Hope ya can help me out.

Can you load your avi into GraphEdit (http://files.digital-digest.com/downloads/files/encode/graphedit011008.zip) and post the screenshot here? Let us see how it is getting decoded.

If that file is true Xvid compresion, and Xvid decoder/codec is not present/registered in system then it is not possible to build graph with GraphEdit.
It can be played back by players like VLC or mplayer that having their own internal decoders.

Well, I'm playing it with BSPlayer. :|
I rendered the file with GraphEdit and here's a screenshot.

AviDecompresor is used to decode video part of file. It is quartz.dll from WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 and with Xvid encoded .avis could be some problems with B-frames or others enhancements. Try to play your .avi files with VLC or MPlayer to see if quality of playback can be better, or replace AviDecompresor with XviD Mpeg-4 Video Decoder.
Best way to uninstal Xvid is from Control Panel.
I have quite good results with encoding to Mpeg-4 Xvid using ffdshow video encoder .

k I reinstalled both divx and xvid but now divx is playinf xvid encoded filez and freezes the picture for a few seconds from time to time. How do I make it use the XviD codec to decode those filez using GraphEdit ?
