wrong,
for asp mp4box leaves the userdata in the vol, which, for xvid, divx, 3ivx and ffmpeg/ffdshow, nero streams, tells the used encoder
for avc mp4box and mp4creator leave the userdata sei in the stream, which, for nero and x264 streams, tells the used encoder

just because mp4ui sometimes strangely displays the used encoder and sometimes not, doesnt mean much I'm curious Bond. If MP4Box leaves the encoder UserData in the vol, how come when you create muxes with it, mp4UI is unable to display the encoder that was used?

And just for your info, mp4UI is very constant at displaying the video "decoder" information: -

also you guys shouldnt forget that it simply doesnt matter what encoder was used on a stream placed in .mp4 :) Some of us like to know which encoder was used to create the encode... Thankfully when you use either MP4Box and mp4UI to de-mux SP/ASP streams to .AVI, the UserData is preserved and can still be read in GSpot

But... here's an muxing observation that requires reporting (unless it already has). It seems neither MP4Box or mp4UI is able to mux HDX4 .AVI streams to .MP4: -

maybe it adds the info from the userdata also as tag to the .mp4 or so...
it definitely isnt reading out the vol, cause than the mp4box muxes would also work

when changing the fourcc to something like DIVX i assume it will work

Not even when you change the 4CC and the UserData codes...

can you upload a small clip somewhere, plz I can't remember exactly where I downloaded the HDX4 sample from now, but it was from a link posted on the forum. There were also samples from all the other popular ASP and AVC codecs, generated from the same source - although bizarrely, some of the ASP samples are displayed upside down

But here's (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/seemoredigital/hdx4_engel_900.7z) the file anyway ;)

these hdx4 streams are strange

- the video is flipped
- i cant get fluent playback with ffdshow, but only a choppy one
- packed bitstream is used, but also the unpacked stream doesnt play any better
- mp4box indeed crashes when importing such .avi files

Whoever generated them also managed to encode the DivX and XviD samples upside-down too...

I just wish I could remember where they came from :(

I just wish I could remember where they came from :( they are from the heise codec comparison available here (http://www.heise.de/ct/05/10/146/testsequenzen.shtml)
