Hi guys,
just wondering when you capture a movie how do you know it's interlaced or not? (i mean the otherway of just see when you play the movie)
and if your movie is interlaced, when you do the editing with Adobe Premiere should you use the interlaced or progressive?
a bit confused.. coz last time my friend do the editing with premiere, and we got this very bad result... (i resized the video to 320x240, divx 5)
do u know what's the problem with this video?
*it's not a ZIP file, rename it to AVI =)
thanks guys

You have to be careful with your terminology. Interlaced can mean several things. I suggest you read the material at www.100fps.com and then come back with a more precise question.
One answer is that you can use a filter to separate the fields of the video and look at the fields in a high motion section. Let a letter stand for a unique picture. If you see the fields like this:
a b c d e f g ...
then it is "interlaced". If you see the fields like this:
a a b b c c d d ...
then it is progressive.
You can use the VirtualDub filter ViewFields to separate the fields. You can also use the Avisynth SeparateFields() filter.
I prefer the word combing over interlaced. It just means the combed edges (mouse teeth) you see on moving or changing content. You can get combing from many mechanisms: interlacing per se, 3:2 pulldown, field blending, etc.

Thanks for this post Neuron2!!!!!!!
I've been playing with avisynth for a few days and it just never dawned on me that I could leave out the weave() statement and be able to actually view the individual fields in virtualdub! That's really cool and useful.
Question: I can't find a 'viewfields' filter in virtualdubmod or on your site. How do I find that?

I'll add a caveat that might instruct you on another tidbit. Don't assume that a progressive clip will have the two fields from one picture in the same frame! You might see it like this:
. a b c d e f
a b c d e f .
This is referred to as a one-field phase shift. It is still progressive but if you just view frames you may be misled into thinking it is interlaced. Telecide and other field matchers can restore the proper matching per frame.
