You can't capture DV over USB.

According to Canon's Website (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=167&modelid=9932) it has firewire. It does however specify "DV Terminal: Special 4-pin connector (IEEE1394 compliant)" on the specifications page, so that may explain the "strange USB" you've found.

No I think thats just a standard firewire cable. There are 2 type of connectors: 4pin and 6pin. Usually 1394 pci cards ship with a 4->6pin cable allowing you to instantly plugin devices.

gavo,

if you don't have firewire on your PC, then you won't be able to capture DV. USB capturing, which some camcorders provide, is for photos only.

using simple web camera, USB, VirtualDubMod, video with up to 5 frames/second is captured as video with compressing.
I am not sure that this can help, but may be
