I made a new comparison at 400kbps. Here's the results:

I noticed the same things you marked in your results, both good and bad. People who are more picky about block noise might choose rv10, but I prefer detail.

I'm sure blocks can go away by using a stronger inloop filtering.

that as a lot of block noise

Source? 235MB anime source. Usualy it's 170MB. For anime, it's pretty standart.

Encoded files? at 400kbps, it's good we can see something :)

I made a comparison @ 200 kbps

Cowboy Bebop scene
video size: 576 x 448

RV10 2-pass constant bitrate 1.65MB
default settings
http://encodetest.cjb.net/cowboybebop-test_RV10_200.rm

x264 2-pass 1.56MB
max B-Frames = 3
cabac = yes
deblocking filter = 6
use as references = yes
weighted biprediction = yes
max IDR = 250
min IDR = 25
keyframe boost = 20
b-frame reduction = 30
bitrate variability = 60
the rest is checked and partition decision quality = 5

Check out the part with windmills
RV10 tends to get very blocky
x264 preserves the detail

(Tried both constant and vbr for RV10 dind't notice any difference maybe its just my eyes. :cool: )

@Mod

Can you make a new threads with the post above? Thanks!

@COREiP

About the comp, RV10 seems to try to be sharper, while x264 is blured. Maybe the inloop filter was set too high. Edges of rv10 are not really good.

Both are pretty good for 200kbps :D, but I tend to prefer for x264.

For RV10, did you use "streaming" or "curve" rate control? Which EHQ? Also, use VBR.

Yeah. Make a new thread for the 200kbps comparaison, so people can get to both easily.
