Hi

I'm trying to create a DVD backup of Star Wars Episode 1, but there's a problem. Episode 1 has multiple angles on VTS 6, so this is what DIF4U does acorrding to the log file:

"Multiple angles on VTS_6. Automatically checking Demux by Vob ID box (Manual use of Scenarist required)."

Now, acorrding to the guide, you're only supposed to check that box in special cases, but the guide doesn't specify what those cases are. Anyways, I uncheck the Demux by Vob ID box, and I press "DO IT!" Everything starts off like it should, i.e. Decrypter does it thing and NuMenu4u starts and begins CCE, etc. BUT after Numenu4U is finished with CCE, it starts Scenarist (v.3.0) and Scenarist freezes . I'm like "HEY! This isn't in the guide!"

I've tried to do it a second time and leaving the "Demux by Vob ID box checked, but I get the same problem. This is my first time using the big 3 method, so I'm feeling kinda lost here. Any words of wisdom?

you have 2 seperate issues there

1) all multi-angle issues need to be done by Vobid (it's one of the instances) - the other times you need to do a demux by vobid is if say PGC1 and 2 uses VOBID 1 BUT PGC1 uses audio 80 but PGC2 uses 81, if you demuxed by PGC you'll lose audio so a vobid demux is needed

in regards the numenu/scenarist issue..... we need more detail on what you mean by "freezes"

I guess I may caused a confusion. When I said that there was a error with DIF4U and NM4U I meant to say that one of these two programs (most likely NM4U) is starting up Scenarist after CCE is finished with the menus of the DVD. According to the guide, it says Once NM4U completes, control will automatically be returned to DIF4U. It says nothing of Scenarist starting up. Then when I saw that Scenarist open up and just stay there like it wasn't doing anything (hence "freezes"), I was like "Who invited you to the party?"

Is this supposed to happen, or was it due to the fact that since the movie had multiple angles, Sceanrist had to open up because of the message "(Manual use of Scenarist required)?"

By the way, how would you suggest that I go about demuxing , i.e. should I leave the "demux by Vob ID" box checked or what should I do? (It's my first time using these programs and help will be appreciated). Thanks.

The actual authoring is carried out by Scenarist, which numenu4u controls (to a degree). Once the authoring is complete, numenu4u will update the ifos where necessary and create a video_ts folder containing the required files. Program closes and the DIF4U will do its' thing.
When authoring scenarist will often look frozen, but it is actually working behind the scenes. Depending on the menu complexity importing can take a while - i had one that took over 2 hours!

Much thanks. I restarted the back-up process all over again, but this time I let Scenarist do its thing, and (to my surprise) it finished with the scripts. :) However, when NM4U regained control of the situation, NM4U never did anything else! It only had a litte ways to go according to the process bar. After about an hour, I noticed in the task manager that the system was still at idle, so I got frustrated and stopped NM4U. Then I noticed that DIF4U regained control and finished up with whatever it had to do.

After that, I opened up Scenaid and selected the demux directory, and as a matter of fact, BatchCCEWS is working in collaboration with CCE right now to finish up encoding. Yet, I kinda doubt that the backup project will be a success in the end because of the NM4U incident. What went wrong? All the settings are as they should be according to the guide. I know that you guys are gods amongst men when it comes to this stuff. That is why I come to you for help.

sounds like automate_scenarist.exe probably never closed for whatever reason..

you might as well stop encoding because your bitrates will be wrong w/out the menu files (which didn't get copied over due to the error)

if that happens again you can simply go in and kill the "automate_scenarist.exe" process and numenu should continue on

remember, during the scenarist step... DO NOT manually click on any prompt or window including confirmation messages.. the automate routine will do that

Like I said: GODS AMONGST MEN!!! THANK YOU!:)

By the way, since I'm demuxing by Vob Id, will I have to do any calculations? For example, in the trilight DasUber Guide under "Extract by Vob ID or PGC," the very bottom part of this section of the guide reads:

"You will STILL have to do your calculations manually if your project requires that it be done by VOBID!"

What are these calculations?

WHY, WHY, WHY!?!?! Why do I seem to have the same problem over and over again? I keep getting the same error message after NuMenu4U initiates and finishes with Sceanrist. The message I keep getting is:

"Unable to close Scenarist. Close Scenarist manually and then press OK."

After I close Scenarist manually, NuMenu4U just sits there FOREVER and doesn't do anything. I'm currently using the latest version of every application in the Big 3 process. I've wasted my whole Memorial Day weekend trying to solve the problem but to no avail. The movie I'm trying to backup is Star Wars EP 1. Anyone out there that has succesfully backed up this movie?

numenu doesn't link to scenarist it links to the automate_scenarist executable.

If you are closing or touching scenarist manually, then the automate_scenarist app doesn't finish, doesn't close and numenu continues to wait (not hanging.. just waiting)

seems to me we've gone through this before....

this issue has been addressed numerous times in other threads.. before you start complaining about how much time you wasted try using the search feature

Thanks anyways Trahald. Seems that D3s7 was right: I was too impatient. The automate_scenarist executable did take care of everything afterall...I just needed to give it a little bit more time. By the way, I finished backing up Star Wars ep 1 early this morning, and I gotta tell you, It looks like the original! I thank D3s7, Zeul, Trahald, and everyone else in the Doom9 froum.
