From the -h help, it seems only to have .264 (raw) and .mp4 output. Why not .avi too?
Note: please, no "AVI is deprecated and bad for bframes" things :)

then the answer would be that so far no one has cared enough for it to write a patch... mencoder can do it though... or you can use VFW.

I think thus far the most usefull thing of the CLI in terms of features is that it can output raw frames. from there I can just play around using it in different containers and see how each one reacts in terms of CPU usage, compatibility of aspect ratios/res, etc.
is it true that the vfw version doesn't come close to having all the features of the CLI version? I fI remember reading the CLI help command menu it just seems to me like there is alot more customization(excluding the raw output and mp4 container feature)? Will all the features be added to vfw eventually or is x264 shying away from vfw?
Thanks in advance.

I don't do GUIs. There has been no one maintaining the VfW since rev 187.

Actually, my choice is .264 or nothing. I'm running 64bit linux. x264 requires gpac to output to mp4, but gpac can't be compiled to 64bit (yet). I know... I've been trying to get gpac to compile as 64bit for the last few days.
On the plus side, x264 compiled just peachy as 64bit. :D

You can input AVS (so AVIs are included ;) )
x264 version compiled with GPAC for mp4, and with avs option enabled for avs input (sharktooth latest versions are good).
bye
