i have send a e-mail to the developer of mkvtoolnix and inquire if we can add support of muxing mpc into mkv. but he says...

> Is it possible for you to add support to musepack(MPC) audio format into mkvtoolnix? in high bitrate, mpc performs far better than mp3...

>No. The reason is that with its current bitstream format Musepack cannot
be split up into individual packets like Matroska needs them.

well, i am thinking of modify the mpc file format to make it support being split into packets. could this come ture?

welcome discussing.

Whether it can be done or not, you first have to ask yourself if such a modification will be widely adopted enough for the Matroska team to implement it. I think outside of the audio encoding world (and even inside) not too many people know MPC let alone use it. IIRC for Theora there is no support in Matroska, so there are other considerations to keep in mind than just technical ones. Also don't forget that if your modification is not compatible with current decoders, you will have to rebuild all support that there currently is for MPC.

AFAIK I know it was always the intention of the MPC dev that SV8 would be more editable friendly (and therefor easier to mux in Matroska), although there have been no signs that much work is done on it...

Just my 2 cents though...

Well at least join the mpc dev team rather than developing something on your own. As I understood it there was/is going to be a SV7.5 that will work with mkv and other containers. Maybe you can help work on that?

Oh, you two might misunderstand my meaning. i just want to know the possibilities of it. although i am a programmer, i am far from developing such thing myself.:(
well, thanks for those useful information above.:)

This is correct. There were hopes later last year that the developer would finish SV8, but it never happenned. If SV9 were finished, support would undoubtedly be added to Matroska.

We do not support muxing of Musepack SV7 into video containers. It can only be done by a hack, and that hack is a very, very nasty one that can cause your ears to bleed and speakers to pop if you seek.
There is no way to modify the SV7 bitstream to allow it to be muxed without breaking it.

We do intend to work on SV8, however, there is a serious lack of developers with know-how and/or free time. Most people who can help us are very busy with their full time jobs.
We encourage anyone who is serious and wants to help to contact us on our forum or IRC network.
