Smartripper 2.41 couldn't rip it. DVD2SVCD internal VStrip spewed endless read errors. DVD Decrypter ripped it but in a weird way: The first 4 min 58 secs were blank black frames. After converting to SVCD the video played in a jumpy strobe like fashon (one frame every 1/3 or 1/2 second). audio sounded fine, but several seconds out of sync. Help please.

When I later ripped Spanglish using Smartripper 2.41, I only selected Cell # 8 in Chapter 1 along with all the other Chapters - Then everything was fine. (Ch 1 has 7 useless - actually troublemaking - cells that serve no useful purpose whatsoever).
By the way, Chopper XP is an excellent tool to select any particular portion of a .vob file and save the desired selection. Its free and incredibly easy to use.

Sounds like Spanglish has the new Sony copy protection. Try using DVDFab Decrypter to rip it to your HD as it is reported to handle the new copy protection very well. A very simple no frills program and its free :)

I keep hearing references to new encryption schemes being used. What I don't get is: How are the older DVD players (I guess older could actually be the day before a the next new encryption scheme is released) going to play these DVD's with these newer encryption schemes. My player is about 3 or 4 years old now and it hasn't failed to play anything yet. So, it wouldn't seem like DVD makers would really want to use newer encryption since if more and more people couldn't play the DVD's it would kill the DVD rental and sales. Admimitedly I don't understand the technical end of this subject, and maybe I'm thinking on the wrong track. If someone out there has more technical understanding of this subject I would appreciate the info.
Thanks for the DVDFab recommendation !

I ripped Spanglish with DVDD with no problem in ISO read mode.
Ticked all Remove PUO's, structure protection etc.
I only burned the main movie from the ISO.
Still, DVDFab Decryter as ChickenMan indicated should work.
Regards,:)
P.S. It does have the new Sony ArCoSS protection.

In ARccOS protected titles, there are specific commands in the .IFO file to skip the "bad sectors".
During reproduction, the dvd player doesn't try to read these sectors due to this commands. Therefore, there is no compatibility issue with older players..
On the contrary, a dvd ripper tries to rip every sector of the dvd, so when it comes across those bad sectors, it stucks with read errors...
The workaround is for the ripper to identify the "bad sectors", in the .IFO file and instead of trying to read them, to replace them with "dummy sectors"...
