I have a PIII, 512 MB, 40 GB & 80 GB drives. I encode with CBR 2520 Highest quality settings, Downsample 48 -> 44.1. TMPGEnc encoder. Latest versions of encoder and DVD2SVCD. A 2 hr movie takes 16 - 18 hrs total. This seems awfully slow. Is there something/s I'm doing wrong ?

Sounds about right as I remember. Highest quality setting is very slow in TMPGEnc.

Mainconcept is much faster than Tmpgenc. Just curious why you would want to go from dvd to svcd.
But DVD2SVCD doesn't support MainConcept...
As for ehy he's doing DVD2SVCD, I'm guesiing he doesn't have a DVD player and wants a backup that will play on his set-top DVD player.
TMPGEnc is awfully slow.
Try QuEnc for size.

i apologize if I didn't make myself clear. What I meant was if "dave268" wanted a faster way to do this he could use Mainconcept as an alternative to Dvd2svcd.

How much faster do you think it will be ? How does the encoding quality compare ? Where can I get QuEnc ? How much ? Thanks.

Depends on your setting... but it can get you results in half of the time :)... the quality is usually good enough... HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94813) ... nothing its FREE... you're welcome
ps. You can also try CCE (speed/quality can't be beaten using DS2ROBA) :D

Thanks. The encoding end of the SVCD creation process takes about 1/4 of the time of TMPGEnc (using 1 pass in QuEnc) with no apparent reduction in quality. Also I now get about 52 minutes on 1 CD where with TMPGEnc and CBR of 2520 I only got 41 minutes on 1 CD. So many thanks to Nic - Great guy - deserves a lot of credit for this superb software !
