View Full Version : Fastest MPEG decoder filter
Hi!
I'm trying to playback a hdtv 1080i .ts file. I've installed a .ts reader filter, so now BSplayer can playback the .ts files. But I had no image only sound. I realized that always a Ligos MPEG decoder filter tried to decode it. I've lowered that filter's merit, now Mainconcept decodes it. But it is too slow. Unwatchable.
I've also tried VLC (VideoLAN player) which played the video at normal speed, it was watchable, but a gray line appeared on the bottom of the video.
Which decoder filter is the fastest? If non is capable to playback 1080i videos, then what program is good to playback these videos?
My CPU is a P4 2.4C...
Thanks!

I don't understand. CPU load is only 30% and the video is not smooth. I use HDTV pump filter 1.0.5. to read the .ts file.

Very fast and good decoder is in Windvd 6. I have Athlon XP 1500+ (1,3GHZ) and only on this decoder I can watch hd mpeg2 ( you should have Elcard demultiplexer too).

In my opinion Sonic is faster. I have P4 1.4 Processor and (only)TNT32 m64 graphic card. I tried elecard, Nvidia, Intervideo, DVD Express etc. but only Sonic works very well.

That's true. Sonic is fast and good too.
I renamed the .ts file to mpg and installed elecard filters, but I've set higher priority for dscaler. So BSPlayer uses Elecard Mpeg2 demultiplexer and dscaler for decoding the video.
Is there another filter that is good for mpeg2 demultiplexing and can use the .ts files?

Nvidia DVD decoder + Nvidia 6X00 video card is the fastest I've tried, and probably has the best deinterlacing, too.

6X00 cards support Pure Video Technology and probably that is very good matod. That cards are aptimized for hd tehcnology.

Yes Nvidia has better deinterlacing. It can be use when watching football games. And also in my opinion the best method for deinterlacing is "Display Fields Seperately".
kovi you can use Media Player Classic.

For me DScaler is the fastest and has the best quality and deinterlacing. It uses hardware iDCT of my 6600GT :)
nVidia filter is not that bad but I really prefer DScaler, matter of taste.
Got a Sempron 2600+ by the way...

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~balazer/fix1088/fix1088.exe
"fix1088 Will process a transport stream recording to remove the grey
or black bar that you see at the bottom of some 1080i broadcasts. It
will replace any vertical size value of 1088 in the sequence headers
with 1080. Note that sometimes the grey bar is caused by a bug in
the decoder rather than in the encoder, in which case this will not help.
Usage: fix1088 [-s] <input file/pattern> <PID>
-s: save input files instead of overwriting them
specify PIDs in hex without the leading 0x.
Edit - Damn, I didn't know this thread was so old.
