I'm using a Skystar2, with ProgDVB. My main target is record DVB in order to convert to DVD - without reencode.
So, which format is better to record: "PVA" or "MPGE2 PS" ? Before burning to DVD, I always need to cut commercials and mix the sound (since most broadcast that I get are mono - only the left channel have sound).

Use MPEG2-PS, definitely. I recorded something in PVA once (in ProgDVB 4.48 I believe) and it came out with an extremely stuttery audio track. Unless the problem has been fixed in newer versions of this app, stick with MPEG2-PS.

I've skystar2 too and I record italian channel :D
In my opinion is better record in .pva... so you can pvademux the container .pva and you can have .m2v and .mp2 file separetly... is better..
With mpeg2 recording I've noticed some desync after 1h hour of record...
;)
Having SS2 best way is to record to .ts using SkyView or AltDVB programs.
You can record all needed languages and subtitles if brodcasted.
There is also possibility to record up to 4 tv channels or up to 10 or 25 radio channels at the same time.

it certainly depends on the recording application and what you want to achieve with the recorded files. I can tell you the ProgDVB and SkyView mpg output is flawed more or less, I don't know about MyTheatre and DVBViewer (as those aren't free...).

The stuttery audio track is the fault of ProgDVB as it often tends to produce pvas with errors.
I use RitzDVB and never had problems with recordings in mpg or pva.
