I'd like some software that will take a ripped DVD9 off my hard drive and split it into two DVD5s. I also want to be able to completely restore it to its original form if I delete in off my hard drive (ie, merge the two DVDs back together). Is this possible?

have a look at Splitting a DVD9 with VobBlanker (http://dvdguides.netgeekhosting.com/guides/splitdvd9/).
when i have some more time i will make another guide to merging them back.

I believe DVD Remake Pro can do what you ask for. It's not free though, but from what I've heard, it's quite powerful and easy to use.
There's a free demo available.

Has anyone ever actually done what I'm talking about?

I did a small quide on this matter here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=85350&highlight=split). The key is saving your original IFOs and BUPs in a temp folder on one or both of your backup DVDs. You'll need it when joining back using original cells. Of course, if you had removed any audio or subtitles during split, they wouldn't show up in your restored backup. You would have to remux them back in another process.

If you do strip out whatever streams you don't want, audio and subs, do so before splitting and then get a copy of your IFOs and BUPs. Then you can go ahead with your VobBlanker splitting.

Ideally, don't do any stream stripping if you want the original DVD back. ;)

Thanks! I seem to have got it working. I have an off topic question now..

How do I queue up 2 DVDs in zoomplayer so that when the video of the 1st DVD is finished, the video on the 2nd DVD starts up automatically?
