I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on filtering the below image. I recorded it off tbs with my dvd recorder, but I want to touch it up before making a final burn of it.
A couple of things I was wondering if it wouble be possible to filter would be the some of the black lines that that appear on the channel (look at the red shirt for some). As for some reason that channel is like that. Another thing I was looking to filter was the weirdness that the recorder gives the plant as you can see it looks weird. It does that on several scenes and appears to be the recorder.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to any who can help.

Now that's a yummy source  .
For the black lines, try Descratch or Despot:
http://bag.hotmail.ru/descratch/descratch.dhtml
http://bag.hotmail.ru/despot/despot.dhtml
(also read the threads on this forum about them).
The thing around the plant (well, it's basically everywhere ;) ) is called dotcrawl. There are a variety of filters for it and as much threads on this forum dealing with it (Guavacomb, DeDot etc), so do a search with that keyword.
CU,

also take a look in this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86163) thread or try ml3dex
both should remove the black lines

Is this source from analogue satellite TV? If it is, maybe you should try re-tuning that station or re-aligning your dish - those black lines look like a bad reception. If it's cable then it's their fault, so annoy them :D

Its from cable. The weird part is that its mainly only on that station. The other station I noticed it on is from a local station farther up north. Last time I asked them about it, they said it was normal. I thought it was extremely odd, since I didn't think TBS should be like that and from what I read in your post it looks like I need to do some calling and talking to them about it. The cable is from a local phone company offering it (nothing big like comcast, etc.)
Thanks to everyone suggesting filters. I tried going through and searching the forums, but had no clue what to look for. Now that I have some filter names I'll try to search for them and see what I can do.
Thanks again for the help so far.
Forgot to mention in the original post. The black lines will be in different places on each frame, if that makes any sense at all.

I don't know how they do things wherever you are (I was quite confused at first as the only TBS I knew of was Tokyo Broadcasting System), but with cable over here they source the channels from satellite TV where possible. I haven't seen that kind of noise in a while, though - there hasn't been analogue satellite TV over here in about 4 years!

Yeah, TBS is also a channel in Japan. This one is the Turner Broadcast System or something. The only thing that really is on the station itself (by the cable, wasn't that way when I had satellite) was the black lines on it and it appears to only be that station and a local station. The dotcrawl (as some said it was) seems to be from my recorder, which doesn't seem to be the best, but was on sale at the time I had the money for it.

There's not really any way of avoiding dot crawl from analogue TV captures - it's not just your recorder. I'd still say it's your cable provider's satellite receivers that are at fault - that's generally what a bad satellite reception looks like. It wouldn't appear on other channels because they use separate receivers for each station.

After reading what you wrote and the more I think about it, that sounds right. I'm going to call them Monday and talk to them about it and see what can be. As for the dot crawl, I wasn't sure if it was the recorder or not. Mainly because when I recorded a tape it didn't have the problem, but I don't think I got the problem either when I recorded a show off the cable onto a tape then recorded. I'd have to look at that. Currently I'm using S-Video In and the Red and White Audio cables. As I read that S-Video is better than the Yellow video cables, unless I'm mistaken.
Thanks again for the help and I'm going to contact them and at least see if I can get part of the problem fixed.

Yes, s-video is much better than composite (the yellow cables) if the source is good. But what are you connecting via s-video - your cable decoder to your DVD recorder? If so, then maybe you should try composite to see if it's any better. Since analogue cable TV is transmitted via RF (radio) which is composite, you may not be gaining anything by using s-video.
Dot crawl always occurs with analogue TV and solid colours - it's not as noticeable when watching on a TV set though.

Icilies please look into fan filter. I have been revamping this plugin and will post it may be in a weeks time. The result I got with it for removing black streaks :
hFan(yuy,0,1,"edge",8,gyplus=10,gyminus=0)
http://img275.echo.cx/img275/9759/plant01qj.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
I find even the dot crawl has reduced. This particular hfan can be arrived at in the older HLineFilter I think.
I am now working on another project and keeping track of documentation and testing of older plugins is taking time. Sorry for that.
