View Full Version : Fine Tuning with VirtualVCR/VirtualDub?

I recently got a Pinnacle HDTV Stereo (thanks for the advice Arachnotron - it does everything I want :D ). The only problem I'm having is that the program that comes with it (PCTV Vision or something like that) has great tuner settings - uses proper channel numbers and has fine tuning and everything - but the stupid thing doesn't output to AVI! And with VirtualVCR and AviSynth I get that stupid tuner window (seemed to get the same thing with a Hauppauge WinTV - is this some sort of standard Windows thing?) that uses those weird non-standard numbers and doesn't seem to have anything along the lines of manual fine tuning - something I could really do with, as my local cable channels are all over the place!

Any way around this, or are there any other programs compatible with SAA7134 cards that have decent tuner settings *and* AVI output?

Yeah, I saw that before but it says nothing about my Pinnacle card and their drivers don't appear to have support for it. I think I'll try it anyway.

Apparently there is a Standard Directshow (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directshow/htm/internationalanalogtvtuning.asp) way of tuning. Next to that, some program's roll their own.

Two links about the subject:

This subject has come up before a few times before by the way.

Thanks for the links. It turns out that M$ have done the Irish broadcast frequency table wrong though - they only have VHF and no UHF at all! Idiots...

here's another way to override frequencies for directshow. it uses dscaler tuner settings to create the override registry file:
