Is it possible? I have DVD with shorter movie and many bonuses, so to make my life easier I want to place LB to beginning of some aditional VTS with bonuses, so say to VTS_03_0.VOB - is it possible just to take sector position of VOB, shift all data on DVD to make LB divideable by 16, set LB (using Gear software) and go?

The only DVD burning program that can do it ist GEAR DVD! There is a good manual how to set the layer break on DVD VIDEO.

First edit your Ifo with IfoEdit and set the layer break.
Then create a physical ISO with GEAR and burn it with dvddecrypter! In dvddecrypter you have to set the sector for layer break manually.

Gear cannot change the book type to DVD-ROM when you need it for old players.

thanx for answer, but my problem was bit different - I needed to know if I can set LB to beginning of VOB file, because its the simplest way - you can find exact sector directly in Gear...

You only can set LB to VOBU sector start/cell addresses.

Only the first VOB of a title set starts at a VOBU address.
Title sets are splitted into 1024 MB VOB pieces. That has nothing to do with VOBUs.

Thanx for info, so if I understand correctly I can place LB to the beginning of VTS_01_0.VOB file (containing menus etc)
or
VTS_01_1.VOB file (containing titles and rest of VTS).
Right?

Yeah.

But, if you burn with Nero, it does all the padding and stuff for you automatically. Just be sure to use the VERY latest version. The last one had a bug but it has been fixed now.

You're making it hard on yourself by messing with Gear!

Heh, Nero - I'm preparing DVDs for replication and we had big troubles with mastering to DL discs, so I'm doing Gear way with DDP images and DLT tapes. And BTW I really dont like "automatised" solutions like Nero where you have zero control over software. I have to be 100% sure befor I put something to replication :)

I agree, Nero & DL -> coasters! They'll never learn it. More than 10 coasters are enough.
With DVDdecrypter I never had coasters!

You can place the LB to the begin of VTS_01_1.VOB file (containing titles and rest of VTS).

There is a big error in the GEAR manual!!! The layer break calculation is wrong because it referes to .._0.vob (menu vob).
IfoEdit VOBU values of a title refere to the start of title set (VTS_0x_1.VOB)

With all the contacts Nero has (i.e. every drive manufacturer in the world pretty much), I can't believe they're really still putting out a product that can't burn DL discs! If they are, they need shooting!

I must admit, I didn't look at problems with the filesystem itself, but the layer break positioning was fine with their latest release.

If you're just making coasters, it can only really be the filesystem stuff that's at fault - or are you saying you can burn an image with DVD Dec and it works, but burn the same image with Nero and it doesn't ?

When you read this thread

then you can see how Ahead works. They test with users.
Since they implemented -R DL they released crappy versions.
Look for user dbminter.

AFAIK you could set a LB in ifo but Nero didn't respect it. It makes it's own decisions and then the video stutters at any location!
Nero Recode and Nero Burning Rom didn't properly work together on setting LB.
And the burning engine sometimes didn't fill up L1 with padding sectors.

I don't have the money for more experiments with Nero. :(

Any experience with CloneCD copying DL from a Daemon Tools drive? I didn't tried yet.
If this works, which software should be used to build the image with a user specified LB?

Btw. the only DL burned with Nero I had working flawless was a simple data disc, not meant for DVD players. Oddly enough, my SEG could find and play the MP3 files I had on it, while it could not read any DL Video disc burned with Nero at all.
