The video file i just got (.avi) xvid, has random stuffed up parts. Most of the video works fine, but every so oftern there would be a 3-7sec random bit where the colours get all stuffed and such. the audio is fine but the picture gets all boxy and weird colours jump in.

An example is in the screemshot below but that is not my actual video file, its just some random pic i found on google that shows the same probs i have. Is this a sign of a currupt video file? Or do i need more better codecs?

Thanks for the help guys

The Nudnik Speaks:

Looks and sounds like corruption to me.

Assuming you have Koepi's, Nic's or one of Celtic Druid's latest builds installed properly, the trouble would not be the codec.

I dont have any of these codecs you just mention. Only XVID codec and AC3 codec installed. Tried playing on MWP, REALMEDIA, QUICKTIME, i get the same error in the same parts.

What are these codecs?

The Nudnik Speaks:

Koepi, Nic and Celtic Druid are programmers who build executables from XviD source code. In simpler language they manufacture slightly differing versions of the XviD codec. They differ slightly because each are optimized to run more efficiently on different computer systems. Celtic Druid has gone so far as to offer a build for both common systems.

In short, for best performance, dowload the latest XviD codec and do a clean install. Koepi's is a nice build and can be found here : http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml Select the "latest stable binary" for the most recent stable build.

All of this being said, file corruption seems to be your trouble.
