I have the latest version installed on my XP SP2 machine with no problems, tried to install it on a friend's computer who runs Win 2000. No go. I installed Service Pack 4 on his machine to update it, installed Java but still no go. We both recently aquired a Topfield 5000 PVRt and ProjectX work really well with the resulting .rec files. My system is working well. Unfortunately my friend has to run Win 2000 for his crappy Pinnacle card, trying to get him to go to XP and a Dvico USB capture card. Anyway any help? pleeeeze!!!

Found a version of Project X that was compiled as an .exe. Installation is a no brainer, and it seems to work just dandy. It is big, however (25mb), since it wraps the Java support files into the installation routine.

One thing for sure - Project X is terrific at maintaining A/V sync of HDTV Mpeg2 transport streams. I've got a batch file that runs ProjectX to fix and demux the .TS/.TP file, then loads the resulting .M2V file into DGDecode in order to create the .d2v. Finally, I feed the .AVS file into FFMPEG and bake at 300F for around 8 hours.

Hi many thanks but I have found a version also compiled and it is only 335K as a zip file - it is version "Project X 0.81.6" and is on Tony's Topfield page at http://tonyspage.abock.de/ and is free.

Yes, except the version you pointed to has to have JRE installed to run it. The code is also over a year old. The download site I posted includes only the necessary java support files for running the app, which will be located in c:\program files\ProjectX\Java after you install. I guess half a dozen of one or six of the other...;)
And like all versions of ProjectX, that one is free as well.

Have you got the Nokia data suite for a G3 nokia mobile installed? that stuffs up java installations on some computers.

I have installed the latest version 1.5 and the same problem exists. How or what do I edit to correct the path? On my XP machine it ran straight away without any problems but maybe there is some configuration needed on WIN 2000? Anyway further clues?

Many thanks for your suggestion but when I go to that site it talks of a Premium Service to download ie fees.
Also my friends computer is tight on disk space so it seems silly to install a 25 meg application that normally only takes less than 1 meg. Also ver Project X 0.81.6 the small compiled version that still requires JAVA does run.
What I want to know is "why the latter versions won't run" why I am getting the error message and what is the solution to that problem.
I would then like to fix that problem and I think it does have something to do with %PATH%s.
What is driving me is to find a solution to the problem not a pragmatic quick fix! We already have that with v 0.81.6 it's a pity that that version is so crappy looking and functionaly not as good compared to the OooZoon version ProjectX 0.82.01 compiled with j2sdk 1.4.2_3

You'll notice right next to "Premium" is the "Free" Service.
You don't have to keep the app installed, just see if it works.

Well i downloaded the compiled version installed it on my friends Window 2000 computer and it ran quite nicely - thankyou. BUT it stopped working today 20-06-05. tried reinstalling and it came up Trial version finished. trick or treat time. Anyway I am sure with my 'other' tools I'll get it going again.....

No probs. That file was zipped with 7Zip, which has some great compression capabilities, but isn't 100% compatible with all unzippers.
Here's a copy that was zipped with a standard old skool zip program.
