HDTV Wonder Capture from svideo Huge AVI to Mpeg2?

I followed the analog capture guide and I am a little lost.

From DTV box->Svideo out to analog capture and audio to sound card.
I captured using VirtualVCR: Huffy:AVI:720x480(Final DVD)NTSC 29.99fps.

now my question is what to do with my AVIs? 100gb->2hrs->4.35gb?

I need to do the following
edit down the AVIs? Filter/improve quality?
Convert to Mpeg2 to record onto DVD?

basically I am lost with VirtualDub and more so with AviSynth too.

Any guides/info that spells out how to get my avi back to a better size?

thanks so should I use virtualdubmod(2439) or the virtualdubmpeg2 one?

I'll try virtualdubmpeg2 first and then post more questions if that doesn't work. thanks again.

This is an HDTV capture device; no wonder you are lost. The "Capture Forum" focuses on the capture of analog SDTV signals.
