No... It was a long long time ago. It could even be in 2003. Becoz i remember it happened not long after the annoucement of Helix.

And i also remember they don't update this player very often. ( when i check it everyday >< ) And RV10 was in development.

The player didn't work very well. I played a sample rmvb but it crash in midway and the placing of the video was slightly inaccurate.

Anyway i try the this new one and i couldn't get it to work either. Real has been rather quiet lately. ( May be they are concentrating on their Music store thing )

Honestly i lost hope in them . Since Nero AVC perform similar in low bitrate for anime and still have many improvement headroom left. It is also Mp4 standard which means one day i could get a player to play my Video on TV. The only trade off is its high Encode/Decode power.

Edit: When did you become interested in Rv? I thought you are always pro Mp4

I know the thread is very old, but I finally made Helix Player run.

Instructions

Install GTK++ 2.0. Download it here (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gimp-win/gtk%2B-2.6.8-setup-1.zip?download)
Install Helix Player binnary for Windows.
Download it here (http://www.hexemedia.com/prog-new/Multimedia/Video%20Players/Helix%20Player%20v1.0.4.exe)
Often it installs in C:\Program Files\Helix Player
Move the Helix Player files into the dir:
(often) C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\bin
Run HXPlay.exe
A setup wizard will appear. Finish the setup.
Launch HXPlay.exe again.
That's it

The player isn't bad, but it does not support allthe things, that RealPlayer supports.

If you want Helix Player to support more formats, sust copy some realplayer plugins into helix player's plugins directory.

Ugh. How about just adding that path to the PATH environment variable as it's meant to be done? Then every application using GTK+ will run without copying things round... :)

np: Lamb - Little Things (Fear of Fours)

I've tried without moving, it didn't work. Maybe it's only in my computer. :)

Well, I haven't tried HelixPlayer (and don't mean to), but GIMP works as soon as you add GTK's bin-directory to the PATH environment variable, since that's where Windows looks for DLLs...

(You do know what environment variables are, I assume... :D)

np: Lamb - Cottonwool (A Guy Called Gerald Mix) (Remixed (Disc 1))

Wasn't teh gtk installer supposed to add that dir to the path itself? I'm pretty sure it does (the one from gimp-win at least).
Maybe windows needs some time to realize that (reboot or something) ;)

I also have tried gimp - everything was ok. Then I installed again Helix player - again I had to move the files in the right dir to work.
