View Full Version : Password protection section in Scenarist - How?
Hello all,
Does anyone know how I can password protect one section of a DVD using Scenarist?
I have a client that wants a section protected from certain people and wants to give out the password only to some and not all.
How do I do this? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your answers...

You should check out this cool keypad lock guides with DVDLab Pro. There's even a full 30 day trial. http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/index.html
At the end, if the user that's not supposed to see the extra footage, it's easy to view it anyways. They could just process it through DVD Shrink and view it.

You could just add 1 to a GPRM each time the correct button is pressed.
If it's a 4 number code, after the 4th press if GPRM_X = 4 then Jump TT_X else Link to PGC_Y where the user can be told they entered the wrong code.
You of course need to reset the GPRM back to 0 at some point etc etc,

It doesn't matter what you do. You CAN still view the video clip, even if its unreferenced. There's no way you can protect it from being seen from unauthorized people.
The only way to to give the specific section separately on another disc and pray it doesn't get into the wrong users.

Yeah that's true around here maybe but I know many companies, MDs, Sales teams, friends and fam blah blah blah who have never used all of the dvd ripping tools... I mean if you went to a city on a Sat and randomly stopped people I doubt millions of them would of used dvd decrypter... there are even those that have but just can't be bothered...
Plus if the client wants the feature then they want the feature, so why talk yourself out of a job! It might be a good idea to mention there is no bullet proof method etc but I wouldn't trash the idea too much cause on corporate stuff I'd say it'd work ok.

Hmmm on a second read maybe you're talking about just choosing Titles in a software player... and not ripping anything,

there are lots of standalones that let you play specific titles also, not sure if you set a pre-script on the title (to check the GPRM before playing) whether that will stop standalones or the software dvd players.

Hi auenf,
Well I normally disable that UOP cause if you do a Title search it re-sets all GPRMs. So if you were to test you'd need to set the GPRM to a value greater than zero and check if the GPRM is zero when jumping to the Title. I'm not sure the pre-commands of the PGC would be read though...

Hm, all you have to do is add a invisible, auto-action button at the begining of the clip that checks gprm and jump to post if its met conditions (post libnks away of course). Kinda hard to go around buttons on standalone, even in sw players.
