What's difference between DVD+R's vs DVD+RW's? I burn a DVD file (vob) on an +RW and it plays on all of my DVD players. I burn the same file on an +R and it plays on some but not all players???

Whats the deal...am I doing something wrong????

What's difference between DVD+R's vs DVD+RW's?

R is write once
RW is rewritable (you can erase it and burn something else on it)

Usually the players that play a DVD+RW should also play back a DVD+R. Dunno why your players don't like the DVD+R. You can increase the compatibility by using the DVD-ROM booktype (if your burner supports it), then every player should be able to play that DVD+R.

You are lucky to have DVD+RW compatible drives anyway, some sites state that most devices don't support it . Try with a DVD-R.

dvd burners read all, older dvd players only -r,

maybe the -rw have something that make them readable also in dvd -r players?

My 1st generation Panasonic player from 1997 reads dvd+r and dvd+rw discs. You can't get any older than that :D .

The dvd player was made in '97. It plays +r discs.

My point was that there are older models that can read +r discs just fine. It should not be generalized that they can't.

Edit: I think there was some confusion. When you wrote "player" I thought standalone player, not a burner or pc drive. Correct, +r burners were not available in '97. I don't think -r was around in '97 either.

I have an NEC DVD drive from about '99 that couldn't even read most DVD-Rs!
