These past 2 days have been frustrating as I had to encode a dvd to xvid twice and both times they came out bad. I am hoping that someone may be able to give me a helping hand.
Im using the latest stable version of AutoGK and here are the problems I'm having:
1) I want the avi file to be around 730mb. The first time I set AutoGK to a predefined size of 1/6 DVDr (746mb) and the final version came out to 345mb. The second time I set a custom value of 734mb and the final version came out to 288mb.
2) The first time I encoded it the autocropping was horrible. It cut off the top part of the film and left it unviewable. So for the second time I encoded I set the threshold to 0 in order to disable the autocropping. Now I see that the film does indeed need to be cropped and autogk is not cropping it correctly. I need help with this. I already know how to enable the hidden options but I don't know what values to set for the autocrop.
3) The preview doesn't work. Everytime I hit preview it will do what it has to do and the when its done nothing loads up for me to watch the preview. If I can get the preview to work than I would be able to figure out the correct autocrop values through trial and error.
Please, if anyone can help me out here I would appreciate it.

This seems absolutely not a normal behavior.
Consider
1/ Completely uninstall xvid and Autogk
2/ Make a clean install of the last stable (1.95) AGK; will also install xvid & 3rd party progs (if check boxes checked);
3/ Reencode your DVD, your preview should work so you can manually tune the crop feature
Hope it will solve the problems. If not (and only at that stage) post your logfile

I tried your suggestion.
I uninstalled AutoGK, Xvid, Vobsub and Avisynth and reinstalled them all which were included with the AGK setup.
I then rebooted the PC, loaded up AGK and then set it up for encoded the dvd I need.
I hit preview and here is the log for it:

There is no preview to be seen. :(
I don't understand why this is happening. I used AGK about a year ago to encode a dvd and it worked fine. So I am familiar with it. And I know that after the preview is done it is supposed to load up media player and preview how the movie will look. But for some reason it just doesn't do anything after the preview completes.
Anyways, I don't want to re-encode the dvd all over again without fixing this preview issue first because I wasted too much time already and I don't want to pull an all-nighter, especially since I don't know if it will come out the way I want it to (as in the case of the other 2 times I encoded it)
Do you have any ideas? :confused:
**UPDATE**
Ok I have found a way to work around the "no preview" issue I am having.
I just manually run the .avs preview file using media player and all is fine.
But I am still having the cropping problem. I was able to set the autocrop values so that the preview file looked beautifully cropped... but then when I encoded the dvd it came out all messed up and nothing like what the preview showed. AGK cropped the whole top of the video and it's so messed up and ugly.
