Im trying to record a radio station from satellite and convert it to mp3 in realtime. The recording is saved as a MPA file (progdvb) which i usually transcode to mp3 in BeSweet after the recording has finished . But is there any way of transcoding in real time (i.e get besweet to read in a 'live' file). I dont want to use the soundcard (quality loss).
cheers

If you capture the mp2 file and then encode it separately to mp3, there would be no difference to realtime encoding from mp2 to mp3. Your soundcard has nothing to do with the conversion.

im using a skystar2 satellite card. progdvb records the audio as mpa. (layer 2).
Having SS2 card you can use SkyView Program where special recording functions are build-in, there are so many of them, among others recording directly to .mp3, .avi.

There is also possibility to record on fly to .mp3 and .avi in MyTheatre2.76 by building special graphs.
