View Full Version : Jump to arbitrary point in cell?

I'd like to skip the first few minutes of a movie. The part I want to skip is within a cell, so I can't just go to the next cell. What's the best way to do this (other than totally reauthoring the disk)?

It seems I could do this in VobBlanker, but it when I try to use it to cut between two marks I get warnings about open GOPs.

Is there some way to set a chapter point and then jump to that point?

You wish! At this point, it's very hard to create a chapter point in the middle of the cell, but I know jsoto is working on it (I think). I'm surprised you're having warnings on open GOPS anywhere you cut. Cutting the cell would be the way to go for sure.
Otherwise, you can kludge it but not every DVD player will accept that. The kludge consists of setting the cell start sector in the PGC to the sector you'd like the cell to start at. Use PgcEdit, preview the cell in question, find the sector where you'd like it to start, write it down. Then open the IFO in IFOEdit, go to the right PGC, find the cell in question and and change the start sector for that cell to the one you wrote down. Save and test. It's an old trick (remember seeing it in one of 2COOL's early guides) and it's not DVD compliant, but it's always worked for me...

And that's what makes it hard :) What he meant was you have to split the cell, and that's not easy.

That's the theme of this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93728), too.

It seems like a lot of people woud like to split/add cells.

OK but wait, what if you don't want to create a chapter, just a cell. WHat's wrong with having a cell that does not start at the "true" beginning of the VOB (the VOB cell I mean)? Is that illegal to flag the start lba to a sector that's not really the start of the VOB? I think the answer is yes, but I don't understand why players are put off by that! It would seem to me that if you clear the seamless flag on that cell, the player is going to seek to the start lba and that's that...

Seems he wants to rid off the first part part of the title.
The easiest solution is to cut it (and forget the warnings about non-closed GOPs, VB sets the Broken GOP flag if needed)
