Recently i've started to archive my vacation vhs caps of the late 80's to the early 90's and had no big problems so far until now.
One of my tapes has a Ghost/Bleeding artefact to the right of the Year step of "1990"

I've tried several filters also those which are known to work good on vhs footage. But without luck. Does anyone have a suggestion how i could remove that artefact?

What I see is called "FAT RED" It's not that it's displaced to the right, but the width of the red info is too wide due to a poorly tarnsmitted signal, or a badly designed color demodulator in the "vcr". Also looking at the entire clip leaves me to believe that the VCR has too narrow of a demodulation angle.
There are some VD plugins that may work in this case, ColorMill 2.1, and he also has a very good vertical and horizontal chroma adjust plugin. If you are PAL, you need a hue control, and a color mod angle expander, again both can be found in ColoMill 2.1.

Take a look at this:

Have you tried capturing from a VCR with DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) & TBC (Time Base Correction) enabled? They work miracles sometimes.

There is VDub plugin Exorcist, where you manually set
right offset and intensity of ghost. It takes a value of pixel
and attenuated it substract from value of pixel in offset distance.

thx for the suggestions guys!
@rfmmars
I have googled for the ColorMill plugin for Virtualdub but without any results. Is their any way to correct this error using avisynth?
[Edit] Ok i've found the ColorMill 2.1 plugin and reduced the red to a normal level. It does look better but the red is still slightly off to the right any idea how i could shift it without using chromashift?
@JuanC
I capped the tape using a Panasonic svhs recorder with tbc enabled. I still want to try my friends jvc.
@Poutnik
thx im gone try this one now

I do remember now that there was a "FAT RED" script for Avisynth sometime back here on this forum. I will try to see if I can find it for you. Did you try "Fdump" color shifter, its fast and easy.
Found It! Searched under Color Bleed
