View Full Version : Installing AGK alongside GK
I'm considering installing AGK on a machine that already has GK installed on it. Given that both applications use many of the same external tools I'm a little concerned that conflicts may arise due to double installations or AGK and GK overwriting each other's configuration settings for those tools. I'd appreciate if someone who's done this before could comment on how best to proceed.

Install AutoGK with all the options first. Then while installing GK, install only Nandub & VirtualDubMod (this is because GK uses 1.5.10.1 and AutoGK is still stuck with 1.5.4.1)*. Rest everything can be pointed towards the components which AutoGK installed by specifying the paths under 'Program Paths' tab in GK. This will avoid dupe installations and conflicts.
* Nandub & VirtualDubMod will be installed in directories under the GK folder and does not set any registry keys or put anything into C:\WINDOWS\system32, so any number of versions of VirtualDub(and their Mods) can exist in your system and not conflict with each other.

I do not make any problem of it.
Firstly, I install GK with the components I need (I do not use any subs)in GK folder of Program Files, including AviSynth into AviSynth folder of Program Files.
Then, AutoGK into AGK folder without AviSynth.
No problems so far. Am I doing something wrong?
I don't know, I have both lying there in any order and they never bothered each other (though I never actually used AGK for an encode)
But my pc hasn't exploded yet.
By now I have 3 avisynth and 4 various vdub mod and not(at least), and so many doubles of the rest... laziness
In short: It doesn't matter one bit :)
Only thing you want to be careful of, is the codecs. Never install those twice.

@cyberVera, That's fine. The only issue can be if you install AviSynth and XviD from both and that too different versions.

Well, Sharktooth has said that using his x264 win32 revisions (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89979) may make the house explode, but that he doubted it could, though.
Regards.
