Hi!
I hope I'm not asking something well-known, but as the searching didn't bring me any results, here's my question: how to identify Dolby Digital EX/DTS ES track? I'm using MPC & ac3filter to play my DVDs, but ac3filter's info for Dolby Digital EX is the same as for Dolby Digital 5.1 ("AC3, speakers: 3/2+LFE (5.1)") and the same goes for DTS 5.1/DTS ES (the info is "DTS, speakers: 3/2+LFE (5.1)" for both formats). Is there a tool that can correctly identify these formats? Thanks!

Hi dapipa,
for

or

http://www.royco.co.kr/making_guide/audio/dts_es_logo.gif

you should use WinDVD Platinum or PowerDVD Deluxe:

afaik there are no freeware/open-source players which support DTS-ES nor DD-EX. (additional surround channel is simply "ignored")

@dapipa.

Could you present some samples for Dolby Digital EX/DTS ES tracks.

Hulu:)
Sorry, I've got a lot of other problems and I almost forgot about this post...

@planet1
I actually don't need the extra channels, because I've got only 5.1 speaker set - I just want to know, whether the given stream is 5.1 or 6.1. I'll give a try to those 2 players you mentioned, but to tell you the truth, I hate this commercial SW - it's like XYZ MBs on the harddrive, lot of junk in the registry and the same (usually less) functionality as some half-meg freeware player:mad:

@eb
Of course, no problem, but isn't it illegal? If it's OK with the admins here, I'll upload some samples on my FTP and post a link...

Anyway, I've downloaded some AC3 & DTS specs today and I think I'd be able to create a small utility just for checking the channel count;)

Hi all!
Looking for some DTS-ES bitstream specs (can someone help me with those, please?), I found this little tool (http://yakki-.hp.infoseek.co.jp/delphi/vobaudioinfo/vobaudioi.htm) - it can identify Dolby Digital Surround EX & DTS-ES tracks directly from a DVD, but there's still no way to tell, whether the DTS-ES track is discrete or matrix encoded... Hope someone finds this useful;)

hm, I have to improve my japanese :p

the only alternative I can offer as solution is hardware based:

new amps often support a option which shows what signals/flags are set on the audio stream; even discret ES or matrixed are displayed

f.e. Yamaha RX-V2500

(I guess won´t pay a thousend bugs for this recognition ;) )

Hi!
No need to learn japanese (I'm learning it for 2 years now - another 8 and I'll be able to watch anime without subs;)), just click on the 2nd radio button, insert your DVD, click on the 1st (top-most) button on the right, select your VOB, click on the 2nd button and that's it;) I'm working on my own tool, but can't find the DTS-ES bitstream specs anywhere - identifying discrete/matrix encoded streams is the last thing to implement...

When you find out which flags to read for dts-es matrix, then it shouldnt be hard to set the flags yourself. I think this can be a usefull feature :cool: .

Have you found the info for dts-es, and will you release your tool?

If you do, and if you add an option to set the dts-es matrix flag, i would like to support this prog from within wavewizard.

Hello!
I've got no idea where to find the DTS-ES specs :( The DTS specs I found are almost 3 years old and in the chapter "Extension to more than 5.1 chanels" there's just this note for the AMODE (Extension Channel Arrangement) parameter: "More detail will be added in the future." Anyway, the tool itself is very "crude" - just a command line Java script, but when finished, I think it would be easy to adapt the source code for any programming language/application...
