in the AutoGK, DVDDecrypter and other ripping methods (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77941) thread lenox wrote:
obvously faking usage of DVDDecrypter will always work. For those wishing to know what exactly AutoGK takes from stream info file - I have answer. As of version 1.35 the only useful piece of info there is correspondance between language description and stream ID (that hex number in the beginning of each line) for audio and subtitle tracks (video doesn't matter anymore). So its not difficult to fake it and if you badly want to continue using other ripping tools you still can with a bit of troubles. Those complaning about extra steps can re-read paragraph above.

so does anyone know if there is a (automated?) way to create DVD Decrypter like output infos for AutoGK using non copyright breaking tools? (a little howto would be nice :))

thx

There is no automated way. Just keep a 'VTS_0? - Stream Information.txt' handy somewhere in your PC and replicate & modify it everytime.

There is no copyright breaking tools per say - there are copyright breaking actions. So if you use any tool to decrypt DVD, then you might be violating of those. If you use DVDDecrypter on non-encrypted material then you're not violating anything, in which case why do you need to fake it?

Because a tool whose main purpose is to break a copy protections, which in my eyes dvd decrypter definitly is, is kind of illegal in germany.
So sure I would not be violating anything but if I speak with others about the tool I'm kind of advertising it, which is illegal,.. :)

I think it's obvious that the main purpose of DVDdecrypter is *not* to break copy protections, but rather to provide a useful means of backup for previously purchased DVD movies. If breaking copy prevention were the main aim, then DVDdecrypter would not be so useful with un-"protected" material. It's got quite a few uses with any DVD, and bypassing the copy prevention techniques is a (largely) unavoidable side-effect of this desirable action.
