I have a bunch of DV-tapes that I want to store on my PC. I want to use Windows Movie Maker (WMM), since it's so easy to save all files from the wizard there. Many clips are only 5 minutes, so I *do not* want to do this manually.

I quickly ran into a problem: I cannot see anywhere that I can use de-interlace in WMM...

Do anybody know of any programs that can do this?

I *do not* want to use special filters like ffdshow, as I do not control other PC's that are going to show my files.

You are limited in your options if you use Movie Maker.

Do anybody know of any programs that can do this?Ulead's VideoStudio will do what you want.

They have a free trial version.
In my opinion, MediaStudio is much better but is more expensive.

EditStudio by PureMotion is a good DV capture program and its editor can deinterlace. It used to be inexpensive but I see they raised the price for version 5. http://www.puremotion.com

The free way:
Capture with WinDV - http://windv.mourek.cz/
Deinterlace and Encode with VirtualDub - http://www.virtualdub.org

Pretty much. Its a "consumer grade" product, meaning they tried to make it as easy as possible to use. But it is an editor, designed to package your videos. It is not merely a converter.

It includes DV camcorder controls and DV capture, and can create menus and burn DVDs or SVCDs/VCDs if you have the hardware.

It can also create WMV files, along with a host of other formats.

You could get the windows media encoder pack from Microsoft's website. It has the same functionality (for dv-pc operations) as wmm, but supports deinterlace and ivt, along with much larger format export options.
