View Full Version : Insert a pause?

Is there an easy way to insert a Pause at the beginning of a movie? I'd like to create a movie-only DVD (for example, with DVDShrink), but have it pause when first inserted into a STB, so that it won't start playing until I hit the play button on the remote.

I don't want to insert an initial menu, as in the "Adding a still frame presentation menu on a DVDShrink reauthored DVD" guide.

I haven't done this yet but try doing this. Use DVD Shrink reauthor mode. Drag a brief blank VOB first to make it Title 1 and then your movie to make that Title 2. After reauthoring process is done, open up your new DVD files with PgcEdit. Double-click on Title 1 to get your Pgc Editor. In the bottom section, change Still Time of chapter 1 to 255(infinite). Save and test.

[EDIT]You know, if this works, you could get creative by dragging in a custom BMP VOB, instead of a blank, and make it a movie wallpaper intro.

On the PgcEdit site is a nifty guide to adding a still frame presentation menu.

See here (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/r0lz/still_frame_menu/still_frame_menu.html).

Regards I have perused through that and that guide is for "reauthored" DVDs, after the fact. What I was proposing was implementing it during the reauthor process. I had successfully reauthored a DVD with Title 1 as a still snapshot VOB and a Title 2 as my main movie. The presentation menu with be display indefinitely until I press play or chapter skip. ;) It works on my 2 standalones and software players.

This will be a new addition to reauthoring in DVD Shrink for people who don't want to keep their menus but at least have a notion of what DVD is going to be played or is on the DVD. People can get creative with the presentation Title. ;)

If it's infinite, without a button to go to title 2 (which, due to reauthoring will need to be via VMGM), how you going to get to title 2? Or is this where Macro - DVD Shrink remote buttons comes in?

In regards to richarddd's request, I was also looking for a way to pause the DVD with a blank or presentation before the main movie, which is Title 2 in my example. To go to Title 2, all I have to do is press the Play or Chapter skip buttons to continue during Title 1's presentation.

Thanks.

Is there no way to insert a pause using only PGCEdit? If it worked, it would be simpler to insert a command to pause at the first frame.

btw blutach, the nifty guide you list looks suspiciously like the one I mention in the original post :D :D

My interpretation of your first post was that you wanted to create a DVD not edit it after you reauthored. When you mean insert a pause, that tells me that you have already used DVD Shrink.

I don't think PGCedit can insert a blank cell either. But it doesn't mean it's difficult. VobBlanker website has a nifty proggy to create a blank vob. Prepare one in a folder and all you have to do is place it first when Re-authoring. I believe it's a 10 second pause. You can adjust in PGCedit to your liking whether it's infinite(255) or the 15 seconds you need to make a famous Homer Simpson groove on your couch. :p Going further you may insert a "Jump to title2(movie) in the post command of the blank pgc which has a desirable timing.

welcome back 2COOL!

welcome back 2COOL! :)

(the last time I do wax-on wax-off in front of master)

You're right.:o It's been a long while since I did a dvdshrink re-authoring.

OffT for 2COOL: I'd appreciate any input on this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=93291). Oh, whenever you've recovered(from jetlag?).

thanks again. and thanks for Jump2Pgc - I'm using it frequently.

starting with a full dvdThere is a way to import a Title that will play after the First Play PGC. It is the "Import First-Play clip" when selecting FPGC and right-clicking for menu. The disclaimer on this is that the DVD you are working with has to have a unused GPRM.

So the flow would turn out to something like this.

First Play PGC > imported title > Main Menu.

thanks for Jump2Pgc - I'm using it frequently. Thanks but it's going to get old quick when the next version of PgcEdit comes out. ;)

If you are interested only in inserting a black frame before the main title begins, you may use my guide (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/r0lz/still_frame_menu/still_frame_menu.html). Just skip the two first steps, and import directly the still frame you must download to complete the guide (the still_frame_menu.zip micro DVD).

When you will have this still frame files on your HDD, it's just a matter of some mouse clicks to import it in your DVD.

@r0lZ

Yes, that would solve 1/2 his request.
