View Full Version : extract clip / scene from VOB by time code for DVD authoring

My wife gives me a list of time codes [title:h:m:s] which she needs a clip of, I do not want to decode/encode the video, but rather re-author a DVD with her clips as chapters (or what not).

Any suggestions? If this is not clear I am sure I can expound on this.

Project overview:

My wife has a thesis paper she is doing, as part of her presentation she would like to show a "slide show" of clips from movies which are cited in her paper.

Right now, I am DVD->RIP->FRAMESERV->VirtualDUb->AVI->Premiere->AVI->...->DVD.

One of my staff suggested Chopper, it can clip/extract the scene, but it cannot handle the timecode notation.

She might have 16:9 and 4:3 mixed in. The aspect ratio setting in the IFO is only set to one and it's impossible to toggle them during playback.

we are willing to "squish" the non 16x9 footage.

I have an untested idea:

I am not sure what do you mean by clips. Is it a still picture or a few seconds of play?

If it is the latter, then load the ripped movie in DVDshrink and choose the Re-author method. Choose title1(the movie). Go inside the start-end icon and do your cut. Unfortunately the cut is NOT precise to the exact frame considering they are 25/29.97 fps. If it's acceptable then load title1 again and do your second cut and so on and so on....

If it is the stills your wife wants then still do the same but ALSO do the cut along with the approx number of seconds you want that still clip to show. Then open use any software player that can do CAPTURE and perform the process for each still clip. Go back into DVDshrink again and choose STILL IMAGE(compression) with the corresponding captured clip for each "title". What this method does is display the still image in x seconds and then play another still image in x second on the 2nd title and so on and so on...

(video clips), trying DVDShrink now, thanks.

nearest I Frame or second if that is what you mean be precise.

BTW Chopper XP sometimes has a skew issue. That is Mark in/out produce start in/out +/- some delta as much as +/-48 seconds, so it should not be an I Frame issue.

hmmm, sofar DVD shrink, does not like a lot of the footage since it was split with DVD Fab...

Works fine on unsplit DVDs, better than Chopper XP since it can handle clips cross VOB files.

Any one have ideas on a console app to do this by time code?

It would be nice if it can be batched.

Try ProjectX to get required clips.
