View Full Version : Is or can the "Display Encoding Status" data be logged?

Hi,

In XViD v.1.1.0 beta2 there is an Option Display Encoding Status under Advanced Options - Debug.
This data is displayed on screen but vanishes when the next encoding starts. So all the information about quantizer distribution and average frame sizes is gone when using VDubMod batch-jobs.
I read about "DebugView" but it's nowhere to find and seems to have been for older version.
Koepi and Virus wrote tools but they are nowhere either...
I tried DRF-Analyser but it doesn't work under Windows98 as stated, simply nothing happens when I press the "open file" button (no, I really don't want to change my OS... ;-))

I'd simply like to keep the status information for the final file as shown in the status window and since the numbers are _there_ at the end of the encoding, they might as well be saved to a small file... per chance...?

If they are somewhere, I simply can't find them.

Thanks and many greetings

Harley

I don't think that's officially supported, but if I remember correctly, someone here (virus?) made a little hack for version 1.0 or something... try searching on the board...

Hi mikeX,

thanks for the reply. Yes, Virus wrote a small prog or hack which seems to log exatly the information I'd like to have and posted it here:

Unfortunately he edited the post and removed the link.
*sigh*

Pssst ... sometimes I use the automated screenshot function of IrfanView to keep track of the encoding status window. Snapshot every 15 minutes, and after having returned two days later, sort out the few needed shots out of the big bunch.

Don't tell that to anyone! ;)

I wonder why virus removed the hack?

I'm pretty sure it's because it was a vfw hack and the vfw has since been changed from the original 1.0 build. So in theory wouldn't he have to re write it for the latest vfw gui?.

I'm not sure if you need to activate one of the options on XviD's debug page, but DebugView should be able to log the frame info emitted by XviD.

@Leak
Thanks, I downloaded it and it works fine for logging the details for each frame.
Unfortunately it doesn't suit my purpose for getting the quick final overview about the average numbers.
But thank you nevertheless, that little program might be handy in the future.
By the way, it is logging no matter whether the status window is activated or deactivated in the options.

@Didée
Nice workaround :)
And... I promise I won't tell anybody who told me first.
But it works, thank you.

I want to make a test on different b-frame settings and its impact on quality and frame sizes, want to play with the quant-reduction, use no b-frames at all or ones with same quant as p-frames and so on. That's why I'm so keen on preserving these final status window informations.

Greetings

Harley
