View Full Version : Do you know about "one frame missing"?

Does anyone remember, if a bug exists (or existed) that XviD encoded AVIs are one frame shorter than the original material? I thought I once read about that, but I'm not sure anymore, and I can't find such a bug (neither via forum search, nor in the source changelog - except for a DShow bug which was once fixed).

One member of the german Doom9/Gleitz board experiences such a problem, and I wonder if this problem is/was known. Another user guesses that the reason might be a dropped last B frame in a row of 2 consecutive in VirtualDub.

it's a bug from the vdub(mod) version the user uses. Using 1.5.4.1 and below should be safe.

Is it all right to use the new vdub as well? I've read in the YV12 FAQ that vdub supports yv12 since version 1.5.6, but vdub(mod) keeps being mentioned for xvid encoding in spite of lack of new development.
Is there any difference for xvid encoding between vdub(mod) 1.5.4.1 and the new vdub versions? Are these new vdub versions free from the above mentioned bug?
Kind regards,

Actually I think vdub started supporting yv12 natively starting at 1.6.0. Before that version you have to have a codec to handle yv12. But there's a bug that can be triggered by certain resolutions (from memory I think any width that isn't mod 16 triggers it, which should probably be used for xvid anyway). Apart from that the only advantage of using vdubmod is the ability to mux mp3 or ac3 sound, so if you're just handling video it's fine to use plain vdub.
