I just did Brother Bear R3,
with DVD-RB v086, with HC v0.14 and QPV enabled, Quality BEST,
Steal 10% from Extra.

The result is about 4.41 GB, not 4.37 GB.

PS. Is this fixed in the v087 ?

Thank you.

I don't know the specifics of your issue... but I did fix some problems with OPV and HC in 0.87.

@ookzDVD

So with OPV you get a 0.9% oversize and you feel it is a problem and that you must post your result?

Have not you read the biggest problem with OPV is output size prediction?

Please just run your output thru Shrink, select No compression for the main movie and compress the menu (remember RB does not compress menus, yet, just copy them)

I also have a similar problem. I tried to backup Darkness last night using RB 0.87a/HC 0.14 and I got an oversized dvd no matter which way I did it. 2-Pass gave me 4.47GB and OPV gave me 5.06GB. I was doing movie only and HC Best Quality. I tried again using CCE SP 2.7 and I got a perfect sized backup. Is there something I am missing?

yeah size prediction is not perfect

I can tell you that OPV prediction will never be perfect. If you leave the TargetSectors at their default values, though, you should only undersize... not oversize. I don't mean to sound wrong in how I say this, but if someone makes the choice to change TargetSectors -- well, they have to get used to redoing the encode with 2 pass when they oversize...

TargetSectors? I don't know how to change that. Did I accidently change it and didn't know it?

No, you'd have to know it you changed it. It's a hidden entry (that I sometimes regret creating) in the REBUILDER.INI file.

The only other reason I can think of... what kind of audio tracks are included in the source... is there an MPEG audio source or are they all either AC3, DTS, or LPCM?

It is a single AC3 audio track. I tried OPV again and it comes up with a CQ=1.7 but creates an average bitrate that is the same as the source. This then allows HC to create a dvd the same size as the source. It is really strange. I have also tried 2-Pass again, but I still get a disc over 100mb too big. I just don't get it. I really want to continue using HC, but I can't rely on the 2-Pass to produce the proper size. I must admit this is the only disk thus far that has caused this problem. :confused:

@jdobbs,

I use the default TargetSector value,
and I just re-try with the v87a and still got oversized,
imho it's HC's issue, not your DVD-RB anyway.

PS. I'll try with other movie next time.

Thank you.

I just fixed some problems with MPEG audio that will be a part of v0.88. They weren't being accounted for in the sizing -- and also weren't be removed when selected. Luckily they also aren't that common.
