Hi, i've just received the new pro version of DVD-Rb (0.86 Pro) and I have a question regarding the new movie only mode. From what i've read, it remove all extra and keep only the movie. But does it leave the menu?

I know it might sound weird, but I like keeping the main movie only, but with the menu and chapter selection. I just want to know quickly if the menu are kept.

Thx
Xuivo

P.S. If not, i personnaly think that it can be a good feature to add. Another thing on the million you have to do jdobbs!!! :)

Movie only w/No Menus is the new feature added to v0.86 PRO. Movie and Menu Only is already an option in PRO and has been for the past few releases.

It's in the "Mode" drop-down menu. There are three selections, "Movie Only (no Menus or Extras)" "Movie and Menus Only (Blank Extras)" and "Movie, Menus, and Slideshow Extras"

In fact it is useful option, but I'm having a little problem in this case. Althoug I had enabled "Movie and menu only" without Extra, some Extra (at about 500MB) was included in output data. Is there someone who can tell me why?? Hmm... strange

Yes. By default DVD-RB leaves all VTSs that are under 50MB intact. You can change that by setting VTS_MIN_SIZE in the [Options] area of the REBUILDER.INI file. The setting is the minimum size (in sectors) that should be reencoded (or in this case, blanked). The default size is 25625.

Thanks a lot jdobbs! Now I know what I have to do :)

Hmmm... sorry for coming back to this thread, but it seems to be stranger than I thought. You said that by default DVD-RB don't "touch" VTSs which are smaller than 50MB right?? So it will blank (in my case) VTSs bigger than 50MB right?? If I'm right I'm having another problem.
I think I should give You more details. My DVD includes following VTSs (according to DVD-RB):

VTS_02 [4 831 MBytes, 16:9]
VTS_03 [1 076 MBytes, 4:3]
VTS_04 [497 MBytes, 4:3]
VTS_05 [531 MBytes, 4:3]
VTS_06 [566 MBytes, 4:3]
VTS_07 [67 MBytes, 4:3]

As You see I didn't do any preprocessing. I just want to have Movie + Menu only :) But look at status below:

- Creating M2V for VTS_02 segment 20
- Creating M2V for VTS_03 segment 0

strange... where is VTS_05 ?? it should be right here  but it isn't

Correcting VTS Sectors...
[16:08:36] Phase III, REBUILD completed in 18 minutes.

Done.

And as I said. VTS_05 is according to me rather big... it takes 531 MBytes :( I would rather give this 531 MB to Movie advantage :)
It is stranger especially as You talked that defaultly VTS_MIN_SIZE is 25625 (50MB)... in that case why DVD-RB has selected just VTS_05 rather than another (a.g VTS_07 or VTS_03)??

Maybe I'm wrong... maybe I misunderstoond something (due to language barrier)... If I'm wrong (and You don't understand me) You can ignore this thread :)

Thanks :)

What does it say about VTS_05 if you open it up with the Segment Viewer/Editor?

Quite so! Segment Viewer/Editor doesn't see this VTS. There are included all VTS except VTS_5. I can preview VTS_02. VTSs 03, 04, 06, 07 are blanked, but VTS_05 ins't included. Maybe I should try to do it with another DVD... maybe this DVD is exceptional... I'll try it in the near future and I'll tell You about it :)

Thank You for responding.

I'd like to find out why it isn't recognized. Is it truly present in the source directory?

Yes it is.
I've just done full mode backup (movie + menu + extras) and here is something odd as well. All of VTSs were compressed except VTS_05. It seems to be intact. 530 MB before compression and 530 MB after it. So the problem isn't connected with "Movie + Menu" mode as I thought... sorry for creating confusion :) One way or another have You got any idea what can it be??

Might it possibly be a 100% interleaved file?

The movie is Dirty Dancing 2 - Havana Nights R2 PAL. On the DVD there are extras, and as I saw VTS_05 shows some dancing people from several independent cameras. Main (big) window on the screen shows main viewpoint and below there are several (small) viewpoints from another cameras. Ufff... I don't even know if it is important in this case. I'm seriously :(
If it isn't answer for Your question and You can ask me in another way I'll try to answer more precisely :)

You can try opening your source with VOBBlanker. It will show if VTS_05 is amultiangle or ILVU

jdobbs
26th April 2005, 00:46
That's probably it. The current version of DVD-RB keeps ILVU sections intact. VTSs that are 100% ILVU are simply copied as-is.

artoor
26th April 2005, 09:31
Yes... You are right. VobBlanker shows following warnings:

1. There are at least multiangle (unsupported) cell.
2. There are at least one ILV cell.

I admit to my mistake. Sorry for creating confusion. As an excuse I can say that I have never had DVD like this. I have learned about something new for me. I have never heard about interleaved or multiangle files. I must read about it in another thread to understand this phenomenon :)
Thank You jdobbs and pg55555 for Your interest in this case.

No mistake. You've just pointed out the one improvement that definitely has to be implemented before v1.00 gets release.

Actually I'm a movie only supporter... I place emphasis on main movie quality. According to me it should be the best as possible. I also know that many people will disagree with me. One way or another it is my personal opinion :) Moreover DVD-RB is indeed very useful tool and it should not be devoid of possibility to encoded multiangle and ILV footage... sometimes my inclination is changing... and it is possible that I'll use movie + menu only mode in the near future :)

One more time - Thank You!
