Most of the times, whenever I start TMPGEnc, nothing shows up.
On pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and bringing up the task manager "TMPGEnc" shows up in the list of programs running. On clicking the End Task for TMPGEnc,a message of not responding pops up and needs a End task again. I need to do this till TMPGEnc shows up properly.
I get this 8 out of 10 times I open TMPGEnc.
What could the problem be? Is it related to any settings?

Thanks

AMD Duron 750 Mhz, 128 MB RAM, 30 GB HDD, Win 98 SE, TMPGEnc 2.01 (latest i guess). This problem even occured in the earlier versions on TMPGEnc.
:D TMPGEnc seems to be behaving properly ever since I started this thread.

The same happens to me! And if I do a VirtualDub frameserve to encode with TMPGEnc, it locks up again while trying to browse the vdr file! Only making 2 consecutive task kills will solve the problem. I imagine this is a problem with AMD processors, because I dont get any problems in a PIII/800 I use at work!

Oops, my system is: Athlon 1GHz, 256MB, K7-VTA-B board, WinMe.

Regards.

Yes, I have been observing of late that this problem occurs if TMPGEnc was/is frameserving from VirtualDub. TMPGEnc NEVER opens the .vdr file the first time. One way around was opening another instance of VirtualDub and open the .vdr and close it. If I was lucky TMPGEnc would respond and show up the contents. Or like Descaptain I would have to kill 2 or 3 consecutive tasks of TMPGEnc.
I had a similar problem with Avisynth yesterday. Installing the Avisynth TMPGEnc plugin (ReadAVS.dll) sorted the problem.
I am not sure of a similar thing for VirtualDub. Perhaps I could frameserve VirtualDub to Avisynth and pick the .AVS file. I have not tried it.

I am having this prob as well sometimes. For me it helps disabling the Netscape Quicklaunch from my tray. Whenever I do that Tmpg starts straight away. Mind you, this is not *always* the case, but the times tmpg doesnt start during the first try, disabling this works.
