Getting IFO chapters in FreeBSD

I'm trying to transcode a DVD to h.264, and I want to insert chapter breaks from the original DVD. What tool can I get the chapter data out of the IFO files on FreeBSD or MacOSX?

I did something similar, but distantly related. I used dvdxchap from ogmtools to extract the chapter times when I was doing a main movie only backup of a DVD. You'll definitely have to hack-it-up to get what you need done.

In my case, I had a movie that was greater than 4.7GB, and the main movie was about 3GB, but it wasn't the first set of VOBs. I extracted the DVD chapters for the main movie with dvdxchap, and manually created an XML file needed by dvdauthor. Then end result was a backup of the movie; no menus, just the movie.
