View Full Version : PgcEdit with Preview for Linux (and Mac OSX?)

PgcEdit has now a preview option under Linux, and, although still not tested, probably also under Mac OSX.
See here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=643413#post643413).

It works! Thank you r0lZ and jeanl. I was just about to ask if anyone new any program under linux to watch a cell, to use with PgcEdit but that wont be necessary now. :)
Is the preview function in Vobblanker similar to PgcEdit's preview function? Could it be posible to make Vobblanker's preview work under Linux as well by using some code from PgcEdits preview?
Edit: Could anything be done about the colors and the fonts PgcEdit uses under Linux? I liked the white look of PgcEdit in Windows a lot better than the grey look in Linux and the small font used is quite pixelated and hard to read, it could perhaps even be a bit bigger. Or perhaps I have screwed something up?
Thank you again,
M7S

Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, the Previw in VobBlanker is based on the same routines. IMHO, it is now just a matter of disabling the DirectDraw calls to let it work under wine. But ask jsoto...
You have an option to change the default font, and the fixed-width font in PgcEdit. Unfortunately, changing the colors is something much more difficult. I have to change many defaults...
There is maybe a verry simple way to globally change the colors, using the old and now obsolete 'tk_bisque' command, but you will have the choice between the current colors, and bisque, which is IMHO even worse. But as it is verry simple to implement, I'll add that option.

OK, I've found a way to change globally all the colors of the GUI. I don't have full control on each color, but you will probably be able to define a good color sheme.
This option will be available with the next version...

Thanks for the thanks!
Anybody here is able to confirm it works under Mac OSX too?

Thanks again r0lZ! I didn't read the 0.5.5 posting, but saw it in the download area. What a surprise to open a pgc and see the solid triangle to the right. Clicked and I had cell preview.
jsoto, I really like the features of VobBlanker, but the one feature I really want to use is cell editing. But as you know, that doesn't work for Linux. What are the possibilities for using jeanl's
PgcEditPreview.exe in VobBlanker? Thanks for your efforts on this project.

Vobblanker uses the same code that PgcEditPreview does (based on DVD2AVI, originally modified by jsoto, then by me). Jsoto and I (and r0lZ!) are looking into making the same changes to vobblanker that r0lZ and I did to PgcEdit to allow previewing under linux. We're close to having it working (although neither jsoto nor I have a linux machine, so all the tests have been done by r0lZ!!!!). How contorted can you get?!
Glad to hear you enjoy the preview!

Yes, the preview is great to have. Now I don't have to go back and forth with IfoEdit to look at the cell video.
I'll test anything you want. Just let me know where to grab it.
Just remember, I'm new to Vobblanker. However, it seems easy to use. I had no problem navigating "into" the PGCs. It was just a problem when I tried to edit a cell. (It crashed WINE; due to the DirectDraw call, I assume.)
Am I correct to assume that with PgcEditPreview working, I will be able to edit cells? i.e., the name implies the ability to modify the cell. (Sorry if the answer is obvious/simple.)
I'll save any Vobblanker questions for the IFO/VOB Editors forum (and after I've had a chance to use/test it.)

Yes, you'll be able to edit cells, but I think only in the title domain (I don't think vobblanker lets you cut cells in menus).

BTW, the adaptation of VobBlanker for the new preview is still in progress, but seems it will work soon...
Hi all,
Here you can find a beta which seems to work under linux.

Already in the TODO, but it should be done with care if there are buttons (you know it, don't you? ;) )

The new VobBlanker beta's preview works great.
Big thanks to jsoto, jeanl and r0lz.
Where can I get icons for PgcEdit or VobBlanker to use in my desktoplinks? (It's probably more leet use console, but im lazy ;))
Or is it posible to get gnome to display icons embedded in exe-files or extract them?
VobBlanker icon is included in the sources (available in my sites). But in this case the icon is not one of the best things of the program..
jsoto
Same for PgcEdit. But the icon is in windoze .ICO format.
Maybe someone can design some nice looking icons for PgcEdit, VobBlanker etc...?
Also, I'm not an expert with Linux installation procedures. Maybe someone can write a little shell script to store PgcEdit in the right place, and install the icon. (Should work under Gnome, KDE, etc...)
Thanks in advance!
:o I actually looked in PgcEdit's source for that icon before asking, but somehow I missed the whole icons map.
I must learn to check twice before asking simple questions.

Yes, many thanks.
It seems to work. Preview works (after I checked the "Do not use Overlay" box). I did a cell cut and started processing. The log showed that it cut the cell and it did.
@jsoto,
(While editting, I checked the IFO/VOB Editors Forum and see that a 2002b9 is out. I'll try it. What is the "cutting problem" that was discovered?)
Let me know when you get cell splitting (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=649313&highlight=169#post649313) to work. :D

Man, you guys are greeeedy :D :D
jeanl
BTW: I think it went almost unnoticed that the new beta of vobblanker can still cells in the title domain! This means you guys now can cut the credits at the end of the movies/episodes, by only retaining a still of them! Very very cool...

Hi guys,
I've managed to install Linux in a PC and seems I've fixed the Log issue under Linux. Please check it

BTW, this beta includes the new nice icons created by M7S. Thanks man!.

@r0lZ
When trying to run PgcEdit 0.5.6 the first time I get the error message Error 1 opening file for read couldn't open "/Tlc/work/PGCEDIT/bin/mfc42.dll": no such directory and the mfc42.dll made is an empty file which results in that PgcEditPreview won't run.
Edit:
A. Added some icons for Linux users (included in the Zip archive)I feel a bit stupid but I wasn't able to figure out which zip archive you're referring to.
Regards,
M7S
The Zip archive may be downloaded from the "All Versions" folder on my homepage.
I will have a look at this mfc42.dll problem.
Thanks.
Yes, there is a problem in the binary distribution v0.5.6 for Linux. mfc42.dll is missing. For this reason, the preview doesn't work.
You may either
1. Download the fixed pgcedit binary file v0.5.6.1 on my homepage (available for Linux only).
2. Download mfc42.dll here (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mfc42) and copy it manually in the bin subdirectory.
Sorry.
I have tried to fix some GUI problems under Mac (font sizes, misplaced buttons...)
Please let me know if it looks better. Thanks.
The beta is available in the 'All Versions' folder on my homepage at VideoHelp only.

This might be a stupid question, but how do I get the preview to work? I have both the dynamic and static preview exes in the same folder, but hitting preview doesn't work, and having the static one open while hitting preview doesn't work either. The dynamic one doesn't seem to open for me.
You must have wine installed.
(If wine is properly installed, you should be able to launch the preview by double-clicking on its icon. Seems the static version works, so, wine is probably correctly installed.)
The preview is launched automatically by PgcEdit. You don't need to launch it manually.
The exe used by PgcEdit is "<PgcEdit's install folder>/bin/PgcEditPreview.exe". Having 2 versions in the same folder doesn't make sense. PgcEdit will use "PgcEditPreview.exe" anyway.
Please verify that the correct version is installed in the bin folder, or, better, remove the little "binversion.tcl" file form the bin folder. This will force PgcEdit to recreate the preview exe. (However, this method works only if you have the standalone version. If you use the source version with your native Tcl/Tk interpreter, you have to install the preview manually.)

Okay, is this method correct?
Got the Linux source files from the link in your sig (pgcedit_source.zip). Extracted to a folder. Ran it from there, and it worked fine, but when I try to preview something it still doesn't work.
I'm not sure if it's the Dynamic preview.exe, as it is 180KB, same as the one included in the Linux source. I cannot open that one in Wine. The static one works fine though. So I swapped the static preview for the one included (renaming and all), but when I hit preview nothing happens.
Hmm..

Hum, I realize that, indeed, the preview distributed with the current version is the dynamic version. It should be the static one, at least for Linux.
I will release a new version of PgcEdit soon, and update the preview. I hope it's the problem.
Sorry for the trouble.
