Not sure if this is the right place or not, so here goes.

Ok, i have a firewire card and windows xp sp2. Windows sees the firewire card fine, and i get no errors. i hook up my dv cam ( sony trv 250 ) and windows wont see it. Now my camcorder will recognize that it is in fact hooked up to a firewire port (says DV In), but windows wont see it. any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

What does that mean: "Windows doesn't see it"?
Did you expect to see a camcorder symbol in Windows explorer? Well, try a DV capture program, i.e. your favourite video editor or WinDV, DVIO and the like. You should be able to select a video source (e.g. "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR") and capture your footage to hdd.

I would uninstall your firewire card and reinstall it. Have you tried this?

Check device manager in computer management.

When you hook up your firewire cable and your camera is set to play/PC, you should see and entry that is something like " DV camera, etc, ...." when you unplug the firewire the entry disappears.

Also, I'm not familiar with MS moviemaker, but I've used Media Studio and Premeire successfully to remote control and capture. The point is that don't rely on your app, check device manager.

If memory serves, I'm using the Microsoft drivers. That may be another problem. And as Defaulk9 suggested it may not hurt to reinstall your firewire either.

If you need more detail, post back and I'll hook my cam up and post the exact entries.

Hold on...
Are you sure you have the camera on the VCR setting?
