I installed winxp and powerdvd xp (clean install). I can no longer play my dvds. I get the message: "An unexpected copy protection error has occurred. Unable to play disc."
What can I do? I tried forceASPI before I formated the disk (I had installed xp over ME) but didn't work.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP:confused:

Your system is screwed!

Here are some possibilities:

Your ASUS DVD is not on the XP compatibility list.
You just had a hardware failure (DVD) - nasty coincidence.
You picked up a virus from a pirated copy of XP.

Have a good one,

Scooter

I have seen a similar report on another board: on a dual-boot system with an Asus E608 DVD (the drive is RPC-1 even with its original firmware), the user is unable to access the DVD using PowerDVD (or WinDVD) and Win2k (error updating copy protection key). Ripping is not possible either, the DVD filesystem is visible, though.
In Win ME, the same system plays the DVD flawlessly ... any ideas? I am guessing ScooterMyth's explanation #1 is applicable ... the Asus E608 is not on the MS hardware compatibility list for WIn2k, btw.

I finally found what was going wrong. I hadn't installed the Via 4 in 1 driver pack (I have an Asus P3v4X with Apollo 133A). When I installed it everything was back to normal. Strange as the chipset is quite old so XP should have it's drivers out of the box.

I can't rip DVD's either after installing XP pro. I have an ATAPI Toshiba DVD-ROM on the XP compatibility list. When I open DVD Decrypter, my error message is: ASPI initialisation failed! Error: ASPI Manager was not found on system.

Any help is appreciated!

WinXP doesn't come with ASPI drivers...

Yea, I kinda figured that out. ForceASPI works like a charm!
