Anyone heard about this before?
What is the MediaMax Player?
This is a handmade box much like a dvd player that is capable for playing DivX Videos from CD-ROM. It's features go beyond a standard DVD player and MediaMax Player is fully upgradable and configurable with the ability to execute the contents of just about any CD.
Does the MediaMax hook up to my TV?
Yes. It has RCA video output.
When will MediaMax Box Be Available?
I am working hard on getting a complete and tested prototype finished. My estimation is 3 Months till it's Available. Although I would like to have it completed by January 1st.
OK.. Sounds Like an AWESOME player, How much is it gonna cost me?
Here's the best part.......... Under $300 :)

I am nothing to do with this guy, just saw a link to it and wondered if anyone knew about it. I guess if the guy is any good or into Divx then he will be around the Doom9 boards somewhere!

Let's see....
What Other Things will MediaMax Be Able To DO?
Play DivX's, DVD's, SVCD's, VCD's, Music CD's, Mp3 CD's, Playstaition Games, and virtually ANY PC video format CD.
What kind of hookup options will I have with the MedaiMax?
MediaMax is basically a computer-media system. You will have all of the hookup capabilities a of a PC. Although none of these are required for MediaMax to work, you can hook up a Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor, USB devices, Printer, and the MediaMax is fully upgradeable.
Since MediaMax is basically a PC in a Player, will I be able to surf the net with it.
MediaMax will have full Internet browsing capabilities.
All for under $300?
Uh yeah, SURE...

I found a similar project, called the Bokks. Among its featured replay formats I found this interesting little tidbit:
- Media formats (with conversion tools): divx, *.avi
Not only that; it also plays SIDs (c64), MODs, XMs... =)
Well, anyway, us demoscene buffs love this kind of thing =]
Too bad it's not cd based, but rather needs a network connection to a pc or the internet.

I looked at the box, and while I admire the effort, it unfortunately looks like a cheap POS to me.
I've built a few boxes myself that are used with TV's exclusively, and as far as I'm concerned, the best solution seems to be a BookPC system using a killer videocard with solid TV-Out.
Here's my current setup:
BookPC case (mini-ATX mobo)
PIII 1GHz, 512MB RAM
100GB ATA/100 HDD (holds 100-200 movies)
4x DVD drive (slim)
ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON 32MB PCI version
SB Live! 5.1
RF Remote.
This thing plays DVD, SVCD, VCD, AVI, MPG, MP3, bascially any media file you throw can throw at it, and it has TiVo capabilities too, thanks to the ATI card, and a killer app called Showshifter (available at www.showshifter.com).
To make it even sweeter, games play extremely well on a 42" TV. :)
I'm extremely happy with mine, and my friends whose boxes I built after they saw mine, are ecstatic.
Of course, the cost of parts is around $900, but prices are coming down fast (my first one was around $1400 about 9 months ago, and that one had a 60GB drive and 800MHz PIII) so it just gets better.

While i agree with you temsi that this thing looks like a cheap POS. I'm not ready to put out the kind of cash you are talkng about for basically a crippled PC. I'm building something similar to this "wicket" box with probably better components (new and recycled) and its only going ot cost me $240-290 (with IR remote and Case). You can look at my post in the PC hardware forum "Good TV out card that can display w/ no borders" to see more information about what I'm doing.
Like OMX2000 said could you please post some picts or links of this bookpc case temsi?
BTW its too bad You cant find NLX and flex designed motherboards based on the newer AMD chips and microATX is the smallest you can find.
