When you load a VOB and hit F5 how long should you let it run? Entire length of video? Running the video is doing what exactly?Analyzing? The guides I've seen say let it run "awhile" (whatever that means). And a template.avs file has to be in same folder with DGIndex. How can I create this script? Is the filename actually template.avs? This file isn't included in the download?

iirc F5 is preview.. generally the only reason guides generally tell you to do this is to see the film% (in the statistics) to determine if the video should be processed as film or video (for ntsc). this doesnt save anything. i always let it run the whole way to be sure. ive had movies completely switch 1/2 way through the film from film to video. Whats the url of the guide you are referring to?

But actually it is not needed at all. What I do is just save project with field operation None. Then I look at the film percentage at the bottom of the D2V file. If it is almost all film (>95%), then I edit the D2V file to change the field operation to Force Film and the frame rate to 23.976.
And a template.avs file has to be in same folder with DGIndex. How can I create this script? Is the filename actually template.avs? This file isn't included in the download? It's explained in the file QuickStart.html that comes in the distribution zip file. The feature allows you to configure DGIndex to automatically create an Avisynth script file based on your personal template.
